Samsung announced mass production of 22-inch Transparent LCD Panel
Samsung Electronics has announced that it had begun volume production of the first transparent LCD panels with a diagonal of 22 inches.
Younghwan Park, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics LCD Division commented: "The displays have a wide range of applications transparent in all areas of industry, as an efficient tool for information and communication. With the start of volume production of transparent LCD panels, Samsung will lead the global market for LCD transparent development of different applications."
The transparent LCD panels will be available in two versions, that is; in black and white and color versions, with a contrast ratio of 500:1 and resolution of WSXGA + 1680x1050 pixels. Compared to conventional LCD panels that have a transparency of 5%, the new panels from Samsung products have a transparency rate of 20% for the versions in black and white and 15% for color versions. Samsung also claims that the new transparent LCD are able tp use the light environment, consuming 90% less power than conventional panels that use backlight unit.
Display windows, billboards for announcements, communication solutions and interactive augmented reality are just some of the fields of employment where these panels are intended. Samsung's new solutions will also be equipped with HDMI and USB interfaces. For now, unfortunately, further details are not known in terms of technical or commercial, as the current availability and the cost of these solutions, will be communicated as soon as they become available.
