BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 will be revealed next month

The Canadian manufacturer Research In Motion continued development of the Playbook's operating system with a new version which will be unveiled in a few weeks.

Of course, with 200,000 sales during the second quarter of the success of the playbook, it is mixed and compared to Android tablets and the iPad. However, RIM does not follow the radical strategy of HP and the continuing development of its QNX embedded in the playbook. While presenting the financial results of the company, Jim Balsillie announced a major upgrade for the BlackBerry Tablet OS v2.

This new version will be indeed presented next month at the top of the DevCon and little provision thereafter. Among the new features, mobile users will finally have a native email manager, calendar and address book, after all the applications that would have been welcome in the first version of a Tablet targeting professionals. As expected we also find a player to run Android applications.

The co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has also announced that the company would introduce several promotional programs to reduce the selling price of the playbook. In addition, RIM intends to conquer the business offering group purchasing as well as promotions for existing clients.

The new Blackberry Playbook OS 2.0 will feature the below things:

    • A BBM on PlayBook (attached to PlayBook’s PIN)
    • Extended Android app player (not a sandboxed variation!)
    • Native E-mail client
    • BES support (not integrated, separate software and will utilize ActiveSync)
    • Use BlackBerry smartphone as a remote control on the PlayBook (mouse, pointer for powerpoints, etc.)
    • PlayBook administration service support
    • Loads of bug fixes

The Android and Blackberry Player Video Store will also allow access to more than 10,000 movies and series and the opportunity to broadcast on a screen with the HDMI. Check out the below leaked image of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0:
