Microsoft will release the first official client dedicated to Windows Live Messenger, its instant messaging client on Monday for Android. Voluntarily with an interface similar to the PC version of the software it will interact with their contacts, regardless of the terminal with which they connect to the service.
Android smartphone owners on Monday will therefore be able to download the first official client Windows Live Messenger for free. The application, which apparently uses the aesthetics of the PC version also allows to manage contacts (add, block, etc..), as well as access to its list of custom emoticons. It also supports the updating of the status or profile picture, and of course the display of information published by its contacts.
Deliberately simple Android WLM is based on two tabs. The first, which is the main window of the PC client of the Windows Live Messenger that displays the contact list, with user groups and online presence. The second lists all the conversations involved in recent history accommodating several correspondents. Direct access to the mobile version of Hotmail Web mail is integrated with the interface.
Light, weighing in downloading less than 1 MB, the application is compatible with all devices with Android 1.6 or a later version, up to 3.0 dedicated touch pads, which will therefore benefit from a appropriate display. It also knows to take advantage of notifications push and multitasking.
It is however silent on the more advanced features such as audio chat (VoIP) and video conferencing. File transfer or synchronization with Windows Live services like Skydrive are also conspicuously absent in this first version, which ultimately focuses on the fundamentals of WLM: chat and contact management. However, several developments are expected, Microsoft promises, starting for example by managing simultaneous connection to the service from a PC and a Android smartphone.
