Toshiba and IBM Showcase MXF Flash Memory Video Server Integrated with MediaHub

Toshiba Corporation and IBM will demonstrate the High-Definition (HD) ON-AIR MAX Playout Server, Toshiba’s industry’s leading flash memory based video server, integrated with IBM’s Media Hub Framework, at the National Association of Broadcasters’ annual convention in Las Vegas. The collaboration between IBM and Toshiba will allow broadcasters to network and streamline new workflows efficiently and reliably. The new solution is a cost efficient HD Flash Memory Playout system, using industry standard protocols for file-base ingesting, managing and delivering of media assets.

Handling increasingly large content sources, both in real-time and non-real-time, is the key to success in the Media and Entertainment Industry. As new distribution opportunities, delivered via broadband and mobile, continue to evolve the ability to quickly integrate new technologies like the ON-AIR MAX offers a critical competitive benefit. ON-AIR MAX delivers multiple advantages over hard disk storage, including much smaller storage size, lower power consumption, solid state toughness, reliability and faster access speed to scalable media, that make it the solution of choice.

ON-AIR MAX adopts industry standards to interface with third party solutions to optimize delivery of diverse service channels such as satellite, Internet or mobile.

Specifically designed for the Media and Entertainment Industry, the IBM Media Hub Solution Framework delivers efficient standards based integration and superior workflow automation, while helping broadcasters manage their increasingly complex environments. Based on service oriented architecture (SOA), MediaHub ensures that the required applications and digital tools can economically support rapidly changing business needs.

“Broadcast companies are in need for a high performance yet cost effective playout solution for HD,” said Yutaka Tanaka, Vice President of Broadcasting and Network Systems Division, Social Infrastructure Systems Company, Toshiba. “The integration of our leading flash memory technology with IBM’s open standards-based architecture provides an extremely cost effective platform upon which clients can build and accelerates the HD workflow further by improving reliability and performance for playout.”

“Media and entertainment companies are now fully embracing standards based architectures at the core of their production and distribution processes” said Steve Canepa, General Manager, Global Media and Entertainment Industry at IBM. “Media Hub provides a comprehensive framework for business transformation by linking business and content systems together, lowering costs, optimizing resource utilization, and improving marketplace agility.”
