1st installation of Vista - error 0x800701E7 and boot manager missing

Hi, I have a newly assembled computer specially for Vista but it is not allowing me to install the OS. Whenever I isnert Vista DVD and run the Setup, sometimes I get an error message just after a minute of the RAM beep saying “boot manager is missing or corrupt” and sometimes it reaches until Vista Setup screen and says this:

“Windows cannot access the required file D:/Sources/Install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the application. Error code 0x800701E7”

I have tried running the setup more than 10 times so far and that ends up with any of these error messages. I don’t think there is any system requirement problem because my configuration is as follows:
    • Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 775 with a 2.44ghz quad core,
    • 4 gb of RAM (DDR2 PC2-8500),
    • Creative X-Fi Fatality sound card,
    • GeForce 8600 (512mb) video card,
    • WD 1.0 Terabyte HD, WD 500gb HD,
    • Asus DVD-ROM,
    • WriteMaster DVD Multi Drive.

Any idea what is there causing this problem? Please help.

If I’m not wrong, I guess all your HD and optical drives are SATA. If yes, then you will need to first install SATA drivers in the start of Vista installation. Most probably you should get these drivers in your motherboard CD. If it is not there, visit Gigabyte download website and get it from there.

Vista 64, sans updates, won't work with 4GB of RAM. What a retarded mistake MS made with that. FREE Linux 64 bit releases don't have this problem. I came here with a manager issue as well, but I thought I could throw in that one thing I know.

You said you have 4GB of RAM. Is it 2GB x 2 or 1GB x4 sticks? I’m asking this because as far as I know Vista can work with 4GB or higher without problems but if you have all 4 slots filled with RAM sticks then you will get such problems and errors during or after the installation. So, what you should do is remove or free up two slots and try installation. Hope fully you wont be getting the problem again.

Once the installation is done, try to add the rest of RAM. if it works fine, no problem, but if you get any further problem then remove 1 stick again.
