    How to create Vista default profile

    I’m using Vista Ultimate Build 5728, this is my very first time I’m using vista. Everything was working fine since I installed it but today I got some problem with user profile setup. I have pretty good experience of doing the same on XP and followed the same process to create a default profile in Vista as well.

    What I did was I logged in with different account, went to system properties, then clicked User Profiles. Here when I tried to copy the profile which I want to use, Vista prompted me saying “the Default User folder already exist” and it wanted me to confirm to replace it. I clicked yes to replace and allowed permission to “Everyone.” Everything went fine but when I restarted the computer, I received an error message saying:

    “The User Profile Service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded.”

    This never happened in XP. I don’t have any idea how this can be fixed. Can somebody from here help me with this? Many thanks.

    Re: How to create Vista default profile

    I don’t know much about Vista but as once happened with me when I changed system file and Vista was not ready to use it thereafter, so I think Vista looks at the file to make sure it is the original and if not, the file will not be used. This might be the case with you as well. If vista will come to know that the file is original, it will use it and work properly but I don’t know how we can tell this to the system.

    Re: How to create Vista default profile

    * Right click Computer and select Properties

    * Select Advanced System Properties (elevating as required)

    * In the system properties dialog click the Settings button under User Profiles

    * Select the account you want to use as a template

    * Click Copy To

    * Change the "permitted to use" option to Everyone

    * Use the Browse button to select the location of the default profile (C:\Users\Default)

    * Click Ok

    * Click Yes to overwrite the existing default profile

    New users should now recieve the default profile you've configured.
