Trying to switch from Vista 64 bit to 32 bit

Hi, I recently bought a new gateway laptop which came pre-installed Windows Vista 64bit OS. Now I use to work with many third party applications on XP which are not working on this 64bit system. But they do work with 32bit Vista such as Google Toolbar, Treo and many more. So I was thinking to convert this system from 64bit to 32bit, is that possible?

As per the media CD, I got a Disc with the laptop mentioned “Vista Home Premium 64 bit / 32 bit with SP1.” So I think I can install 32bit edition from this disc itself, is that right? Please provide your suggestion.

    Thank you.

I have never heard both 64bit and 32bit residing in the same CD. If there something mentioned like that on your Cd then am sure it is not Vista installation disk. Also I don’t think OEM vendors provide you Installation CD with the new computer or laptop. Most probably it will Recovery Cd and when you will run the same, you are going to get 64bit again.

The best you can do is (as your system is just a week old) call gateway customer care and tell them that you wont need the 64bit OS. They may or may not replace the system with 32bit OS. But that is only the best way OR else there is no other choice then buying a new 32bit Vista copy and re-installing after formatting your C drive.

Thanks for your helps guys. I already contacted gateway regarding this but they were just stuck with one sentence “Gateway cannot do anything in this. You were said system will come with 64bit OS.”

    So any further suggestions?

I think you can try contacting Microsoft Support at # 8004269400. As your system is still under warranty they will charge you around $50 but can help you in anyway. Or else pay more dollars, buy Vista 32bit CD and do a clean install.
