    Windows Vista failed to start.

Windows Vista 64 Home premium edition.

My computer has been working great. I get home from work today and
start it up and it seems to work normally. I put my password in to log
into Vista and i get the blue screen of death and my computer shuts
    down.

Upon restarting it, it says that Windows failed to shut down properly
and asked me how I wanted to boot. I chose the normal windows mode
figuring it was just a glitch; but it failed to load at all this time
(didn't even get to the password screen).

So I try starting it one more time and it said that windows has failed
to start and recommends running the Windows Start Up Repair; which I
did. After about 10 minutes it said that it didn't find any problems
and if the problem persists to contact the manufacturer and then shuts
    down.

Figuring my computer was dead, I tried one more time.... and this time
    it started up just fine.

Is there a boot record or something that I can check to see what caused
the problem? The computer is brand new and everything i've installed or
plugged in has been Vista 64 compatible.

I didn't make my recovery disk yet- My Acronis should be here this
week. But now I'm worried that if I make a recovery disk at this point
that it's going to save whatever caused my boot failure.

    Suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks!

Re: Windows Vista failed to start.

Since I have a laptop with XP on it, I felt it was worthwhile to try
restarting my computer to see if it happened again.

Windows started up flawlessly (even though it felt like an eternity
watch the flashing curser in the upper left hand corner of the screen
while waiting for the Windows startup screen... but it was probably
only 2 or 3 seconds which i think is normal)

Anyway, I thought my solution would be in all that stuff I posted
above. But I went into Event Viewer to see what a "good" boot looks
    like and still have these:

    -6:58-
-Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side
authentication. The data field contains the error number.-

    -6:59-
-Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent
WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND
TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in
namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot
be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.-

    -6:59-
-The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: -
    -i8042prt-

So I guess I'm back at square one... what else should I look for? Or
was it a glitch and don't worry about it, just make my recovery CD's
    asap?

Re: Windows Vista failed to start.

Look, there is a recovery partition inside my computer. That partition is needed to run the recovery of system. If you had formatted your computer before and that partition is lost then it will be a bit tough to restore. If that is not a issue then check that your hard drive is properly shown in the bios system. There are some default keys set by Dell to run a system recovery, and that only possible if you have not deleted the factory partition. Or else you will need to run a clean installation.
