    Media Player 11.0.6001.7000

I have two systems at home, a Vista laptop and a Xp desktop. Today morning i downloaded a video file which is in .avi format. When i play it in my XP's Media player, it works fine. I copied it to my Vista laptop running with Windows Media Player v11. When i try to play it here, it only plays the Audio and screen remains black. No Video at all.

    Any idea what is wrong?

    Hello Imthyaz,

There are many more video file formats which are not supported in Windows Media Player by default like mkv, flv, avi, etc. In order to make them work in WMP, you need to install Codec. Just do a Google search for K-Lite codec and install. Restart the system and try playing, It should work fine.

Alternatively you can try out install VLC Media Player. It is completely free and capable to play any audio/video file formats.
