    Auto-Hide toolbar won't hide?

Some reason when I try to check my auto-hide toolbar in Vista, I get a window
that says, "A toolbar is already hidden on this side of your screen. You can
have only one auto-hide toolbar per side".

Yet, I don't have another toolbar hideen, and I'm only using one screen...!?

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks in advanced...

Sounds like the sidebar. You can move that to the left in the options.

    Tried that. Unfortunetly didn't work.

I think its a bug, vista thinks I have another toolbar/taskbar hidden when I
really don't. Is there a reg setting or something I can to reset its variabel?

    Open Task Manager and Regedit.

<shift>+<ctrl>+<right-click> on the Start Menu & select 'Exit Explorer'

    In Regedit, navigate to:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]

    delete the value named 'Toolbars'.

In Task Manager, select 'File' -> 'New Task' -> type 'explorer' to restart
    the shell.

If that doesn't do the trick, repeat deleting 'TaskbarWinXP' as well. (I
    can't test right now).

For me a restart due to a crash (Closed wrong file, Bluescreen.) Went
through the motions and after restart it seemed to work.

    Re: Auto-Hide toolbar won't hide?

I hope I can be of some help...

Often times Windows XP (and Vista) will refuse to hide because it mistakenly believes there is still a tooltip balloon open. (I see this a lot myself with APC's Powerchute Personal Edition.) Unfortunately the only way to get your taskbar to properly hide again (and I don't mean uncheck the "Keep the taskbar ontop of other widows" option for a quick fix) is to restart the machine so that Windows resets the tooltip balloon status. What a pain!

Thankfully through my inability to let it go and hatred for this problem I have written a file that will fix this! (Works great on my Vista machine!) All the program does is overwrite the phantom tooltip balloon and then clear the tooltip balloon and Tahdah!

The tooltip will stay up for 10 seconds so that you can read the info on it (just telling you what it does and how you can contact me if you have any problems). You can close this tooltip balloon like any other by clicking on it, or if you mouse over the program tray icon it will close itself instantly.

You can find my "Taskbar Slapper®" hosted by FileFactory at the following address:

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag93...ar_Slapper_exe

If you have any problems or questions (or would like to know what other little programs I've made such as Task Stopper® - for when any program generates a CPU intensive loop that even taskmanager can't pull you out of) please feel free to email me at: NovaFrost@cox.net

I hope this helps you like it did me!

    Re: Auto-Hide toolbar won't hide?

Thanks Jim, that sounds like a very useful program too!

BUT it doesn't appear that it address the same problem. My program WON'T pull tooltips up that are behind the taskbar. My program is specifically for when Windows thinks there is a tooltip and there is not one.

Normally a tooltip will vanish after 10-30 seconds whether its hidden or not, sometimes though windows does not clear the tooltip flag when they vanish causing windows to think that you have a never ending tooltip. If you have a hidden taskbar (especially if its on the side like mine) this causes it to not hide again and makes using your desktop and any other windows a hassle.

I've just tried this, as my Taskbar isn't going away, and when the balloon on the Slapper program went away, the taskbar didn't :(

    Can you help, please?
