Cannot Delete File on Desktop/Recycle Bin

I cannot delete a file on my desktop. I dragged and dropped it in the
recycle bin, but it will not delete it. How can I get rid of it?
    Thanks. Barbara

I have a bluetooth places on my desktop with the same issue, but your issue
may resolve if you try rebooting to release the file - or - try changing the
file's attributes and remove Read Only - or - add the Take Ownership feature
to the right click menu and make the file yours.

The file has been moved to the recycle bin like you wanted, but for some
reason a Vista hiccup leaves the icon on the desktop every now and then. If
you try to delete it again, you will receive an error message. However, the
icon will be gone the next time you boot up your computer.
