Thread: Outlook 2007 not indexing files

Re: Outlook 2007 not indexing files

I have exactly the same problem as in the thread. The suggestion to access a
fixer for .pst and .ost files points to a fix for Outlook 2002, whereas I
believe Outlook 2007 is what this thread is about. In any event I am using

    Outlook@2007 (12.0 6300 5000) SP1 MSO 12.0 6213.1000

and have all updates installed for Vista as of the date of this posting.

The files referred to by this link do not seem to appear in an explorer
    listing for this Vista/Outlook installation.

Where is the 'fix' programs for Outlook 2007 stored? I see only one lonely
    ..DLL at this location.

Re: Outlook 2007 not indexing files

Installing Search 4 worked (KB940154) It is not clear why this is not part of
the normal windows update process. Any ideas? Or am I misssing something?
This has been quite frustrating for the last month or so..

Re: Outlook 2007 not indexing files

Windows Search 4 will ultimately be available through Windows Update, but
right now {being very recently released} it is only available through direct
download. I'm glad this fixed your issues though {note I also replied to you
    on another thread}.

    Just a quick query.

Is it REALLY necessary to copy great lengths of posts every time there is a question and answer session. It makes for mile long pages containing six inches of information IMHO. I'm not making a flame here - just curious why people do it.

    EDIT

Changed 'ALL the' to 'great lengths of'

I've read through this very frustrating thread. I see no way to fix
the problem, and the descriptions here are identical to the pain I have
suffered through nearly a hundred hours of work on fixing it.

I have tried everything you discussed, and a lot more, and I simple
cannot get Outlook ever to produce search results.

It is clear that thousands of people are suffering the same broken
search problems, and it is criminal that Microsoft does not fix it.
    Vista is crap.

I'm fairly good with technical stuff (Ph.D. in astrophysics) but am
completely stumped. Does _anybody_ know how to fix this crappy search
    system in Outlook?

I am also reading this thread, but for the life of me, I don't see why you
are ranting at Vista when the problem is with Outlook. If the Outlook search
won't find your files, why would expect Vista to find them? I think there is
an option to reindex files in Outlook, but I haven't used it for many years,
so it may not be so. I think there are some repair options also, and there a
numerous third party apps that are designed to clean up corrupt Outlook data
    files. I wonder why?

The idea of having all my email, appointments, and contacts in one
proprietary file that when it gets large often becomes corrupt was more
than I was willing to stay with. Maybe they have solved some of those
problems since I last used it 8 years ago, but it doesn't sound like they
    have.

    Good luck.

    there's a solution

    Hi,

First, please excuse my approximative english !

May be you'll find this useful : i've got the same problem since a week and got rid of it.

    Here's the way :
    - Go to control panel / indexing
    - uncheck all
    - restart

That's it, I had no need to reconstruct anything ...

I will enjoy if it works for you ...
