Hi,
I used to be able to open clipboard in XP to clear its content, but now it
isn't available and the clip.exe doesn't open. How does one clear the
clipboard in Vista?
The Clipboard Viewer is no longer a part of Windows. Windows XP used a
utility called ClipBook Viewer (CLIPBRD.EXE), which is also no longer
included in Vista
The CLIP.EXE program that you mention having used in XP was likely a
third-party utility that you had installed.
If you wish to clear the clipboard, have not you tried simplying
copying something else? The act of copying a file from Explorer, or text
in Notepad or Word (or any other program that support Cut & Paste), will
"clear" the previous contents of the clipboard.
Some programs, like Corel Paint Shop Pro, have a command to clear the
clipboard of all its current information.
Just copy a blank space from anywhere you can copy to the clipboard and it
is clear except for that space.
clip.exe is part of Vista (in the Windows/System32 folder) and not anything
that I installed. Anyway, does anyone have an anser how to clear the
clipboard?
Anyway, I just copied the file from my XP CD and made it a shortcut in my
quicklaunch, works a treat.

The conclusion? CLIP.EXE is not a standard part of Windows XP, as you
claim. The reference you make is to a third-party utility, which is
clearly different to the functions of CLIP.EXE as provided for in
Windows Vista.
If you want to clear the clipboard of it's existing data, just copy a
blank space from within NOTEPAD or some other text editor.
This command from a shortcut blanks the clipboard
cmd /c "echo off | clip"
Where did I say it was a strandard in XP? Please read the thread over again,
and you'll see you didn't read it correctly.
Too difficult, and I just stated that I copied the clipboard.exe from my XP
(as I have one for this PC as my system is an upgrade to Vista, get it now)
and it works just fine..
Thanks for this but I already have the solution and I don't need to type it
in a command line (or in Start/Run).
