    Re: Mouse pointer not aligned

I wish there were was a way that this reply could go out to all that posted
in this thread....one that I originated. I worked with Del lXPS support
today. I posted the problem originally in a Logitech Forum. A response
there recommended I go to MSPAINT and see how the Mouse pointer aligned when
drawing with the pencil. When I did that the line and Pencil were almost 1/4"
off. Working with Dell Tech I showed them this, and, also how difficult
sometimes it was to align the normal Mouse pointer up with Buttons, etc.

The Fix....the Tech Downloaded and Installed the Updated Driver and ATI
Software that is available at the Dell Website for my XPS that is shown for
the ATI HD2600 XT Card. if you go to MY ACCOUNT at Dell.com, login, click
on your XPS system then Downloads, all downloads for your XPS system appear.
The tech Downloaded the driver and Software. I then went back to MSPaint and
the Line and Pencil are Right on. Dell advised only to download Updates from
their site because many times the Updates are different from the updates
found at the Manufacturers Site. If you still have the problem, download the
updates and let me know if it also corrects the problem for you.. If the two
of find this corrects the Mouse Point alignment problem, we can feel fairly
confident...the fix is the Updated driver and software.

One issue I have noticed is the Monitor is much brighter, almost too
bright....and I have the GAMMA Setting in the ATI Control Panel at it lowest
setting. It is as if the Driver is over powering the Monitor when it comes
to brightness.....so I'll need to play with the brightness settings.

Mouse not aligned in MS Vista Explorer, about .5 cm off the pointer, not properly calibrated. Above procedure highly recommended for fix, using service tag at Dell, and video driver updates from ATI via Dell. Thank you.

This fix didn't solve my problem. I have tried all the fixes in this forum. Also running a brand new Dell XPS 420 with ATI driver. The only thing that comes close is setting the mouse pointer scheme to "none". Also updated the video driver.

By changing the mouse pointer scheme, the mouse pointer does line up properly with buttons, window edges, and most other things, BUT it is still off about 1/4" when accessing object handles in CorelDraw, Illustrator, and InDesign. Drawing tools in Microsoft products work fine.

    Any help appreciated.

    Re: Mouse pointer not aligned

I also had this mouse misalignment problem. My machine is also a new Dell XPS
420 with a ATI Raedon 2600 XT video card.

In addition to the cursor misalignment, we'd had the occaision blip in the
display where it would go dark for a second. I never put the two together.
Another time we saw this message: The display driver has stopped working and
    recovered.

The last straw was when the scrren winked-out, went dark and didn't come
back. We called Dell tech support. A reboot brought the screen back, but the
tech guy in the XPS group (yes, they have one) had us log onto a particular
dell web page that allowed us to hand control of our machine over to him.

Things moved pretty fast, and it was hard to keep up with every screen he
visited, but what he was doing was updating the video card's drivers.

All of the problems have disappeared. The screen doesn't wink-out and the
mouse cursor lines up just fine. I no longer have to offset the arrowhead to
    click a check-box.

That's the link to the file AMD - Driver
    Applies to:
    Radeon HD 2600 XT(256MB PCI-Express x16 (Dual DVI) RV630) Direct from dell's
site. Make sure that you have this hardware before using. It is advised that
you check with dell's site to be certain. Having the link when chatting with
the tech may save a lot of time as they don't seem to keep track of their
    problems/solutions.

Too bad Dell techs do not read any of this. i just spent over an hour on
dell support chat and he couldn't fix it. Sending me a new mouse. I just
changed to "none"" under scemes and the mouse alignment is right on. So much
for high priced tech support. Should have checked the discussion group
    before I wasted my time.

Add me to the list. Dell 530 with ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card.
Luckily, I didn't waste my time with Dell. Google the problem, and
    voila...you guys have the answer.

Would be nice to know when the real fix comes in.

Had I been paying better attention here, the real answer IS in. As
indicated on page 2 here, you can download an updated driver for the ATI
graphics card, and then the Aero theme for the mouse works fine.

There are drivers dated 11/2007, as well as one dated 2/2008, but Dell
warns that the latest one has not yet been tested by Dell.

I loaded the 11/2007 version, and it worked fine.

Strange that a computer built in May of 2008 has outdated drivers that
one division of Dell clearly knows should be replaced. And stranger
still that Dell tech support, as reported by others, is not aware of
    their own fix.

I had the same problem with the misaligned mouse pointer on a Dell XPS 420 running Vista with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT. I updated the ATI driver using the 11/ 2007 version of the Dell web site and it fixed the problem with the pointer, but now the ATI catalyst control center has stopped working. I can still change the monitor settings using the Display Settings in Vista, but it is annoying. Anyone else have this problem?

Fixing Mouse Alignment - FIXED - Thanks to the otherposts ; )

I too had the same problem of getting my mouse alignment to work (off by 1/4") and downloading an updated video driver from dell for my ATI Video Card fixed the problem. A new driver for the ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro came out in May 08 and the driver installed when the system shipped to me was from 7/07. Hope this helps others with the same problem.

    Re: Mouse pointer not aligned

I have had this problem for a while. I had tried to redownload the drivers and that didn't fix the problem. When I get home from work I need to try and turn of Aero and see if that fixes it.
I made the mistake of calling Dell's tech support about the problem. He was a complete idiot. What he did was go into my start-up and unclick every single thing on there. He then restarted my computer and told me it was fixed. He said if there are multiple things running especially in the background it will cause that. He told me anytime I needed to use my mouse for precise things such as Photoshop or illustrator I just needed to do the same thing and restart my computer. He argued with me when I told him the problem was not fixed. When I asked how it was fixed if every time I run a program or anything else I would have to restart my computer he just kept saying that fixed the problem.
Long story short, don't bother with Dell about this problem. Hopefully these one of these fixes will work for me.

We have no idea what you are posting about. You didn't quote the original

Strongly suggest you use a newsreader instead of the forum you posted from,
