GRLDR woes on startup

[Hilarious]

On booting my clean formatted re-install of Vista the machine
'freezes' with text
Booting GRLDR
Reseting (sic) the boot driver...
[snip]
get_info(81), int13/41 (81), [some more]
....
....and stays like that for 4 minutes while the drive light is glowing
without a flicker,
after which the Vista boot menu appears. 13 minutes later Vistas GUI
shows up.

The Event Logs show nothing - they only start seconds before the login
screen - and I can't find any booting log for the initial stuff.

I thought the GRLDR stuff was detritus from my Linux booting
experiments with it in earlier days when I didn't realise that it
formed part of Vista anyway!

It would seem that there is a helluva lot of activity that grldr/vista
needs to do before booting my box.

I did a chkdsk /b on all NTFS disks and chkdsk /f on the machine's
active FAT32 primary partition. All was clean and a chkntfs of all
NTFS disks said the same.

Has anyone seen this business before (and found a fix for it)?

GRLDR is ***NOT*** a part of Vista. It seems to be from your Linux
experiments - probably as a result of the MBR having been modified by Linux.

Hi, grldr is not a regular part of Vista. However it is included in pirated
Vista distributions to avoid activation. Try shopping for Vista in your
computer shop, not BitTorrent ;)

I know that the topic is old, but if anyone else is reading this topic
they may want to read the following.

As previously stated GRLDR is a Linux thingy. And some pirated releases
of Vista has this. But some mobos(mainly ASUS I think) include a small
and basic linux to be used when no OS is installed.

When I encountered this issue, the problem was that a SATA power cable
had slipped out of the socket. Just enough to disturb the Vista loader.
The disk was still detected by the BIOS but it wouldn´t load any of my
OS. So this should be the first thing to look for.

BTW My OS´s is legit if anyone was wondering.

The microsoft.public.windows.vista.general newsgroup is not for the
thin-skinned. You should continue reading these threads because you can
learn many things. We have our usual group of idiots and malcontents (and I
am certainly NOT stating that "On the Bridge" is one of them), but there are
also many knowledgeable people here who can assist you with any problems you
have.
On the Bridge told you that he was merely teasing you. He was also
giving you some good advice when he recommended that you use a newsreader to
access the various newsgroups. I recently started using a newsreader for the
first time after using computers for 30 years because I grew tired of the
limitations of forum based discussions. I never had a need for a newsreader
before I started participating in newsgroups. I don't know how I lived
without a newsreader now that I am using one (still learning).

just delete grldr in drive C:\ and it will be ok. but you have to enable
viewing protected operating system files in folder options to be able to
delete it.
