Not natively, it's hard-coded, but as third-party shell editors for Vista
become available one of them may include this functionality.

yeah its a piece of piss to do aswell no hacks nececary. your icons are showing white because your desktop background colour (underneath whatever fancy wallpaper you have) is black. so go to desktop background in personalise switch your wall paper to centre instead of stretch then you have the option of changing you desktop background colour to white and hey presto black desktop icon fonts appear just like in. who says it aint a native option MVP?????????
