    Canon i560 via network

I am wondering if someone can help me. If I connect my Vista x64
directly to the Canon i560 printer the drivers load and I can use the
    printer perfectly.

However my printer resides connected to a XP sp2 32bit system and when
I try to connect to it via the network I get message stating that the
driver being sent to it is not the correct driver and then it gives me
an option to browse to the i560.inf file. I can't find this file
anywhere and subsequently can't use the printer via the network. I am
wondering if anyone can assist with telling me where I might find the
correct driver either on my computer or download it from somewhere.

Thank you for any help that you can provide.

**Frustratingly it works perfectly on Vista x32 via the network.

Did you install the Add On module for Vista 32/64 from the Canon website?
    http://alpha03u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900

Frustratingly they don't tell us where the Add On modules should be
installed... on the XP PC or the Vista PC, so in the case of my i950, I
    installed it on both (??!!!!!!)

Pretty sure I installed both as well but will double check and let you
    know, thanks for the response.

Yep double checked and the software is installed on both machines. Any
idea's on how I can fix this or where on the Vixta X64 machine I can
    find the drivers?

Same problems as what? The i560 works fine on a network. What problem(s)
    are you having with yours?

I have the same exact problem and was wondering if you ever found out how to get the canon i560 working via network. thank you.

I'm having the same problem as OzBoy. I have my printer connected to a Win XP setup. I'm installing my Canon i560 over the network on a Vista x64 machine. It detects it over the network but it says the drivers are not correct and it prompts me to locate the *.inf file which I do not know where it is located. I installed the add-on modules for the i560 on both the win xp and vista systems but no go still. any suggestions?

Has anyone found a solution for this problem? I'm also running 64 and
having the same issue when trying to connect to the i560 across the
network. I didn't have this problem with Vista 32 bit

    Exact same problem as what?

Guessing here...... because of lack of usable information provided...

Have you tried connecting the Canon to the Vista PC and installing it
locally, then removing it to its original connection on the XP PC and
changing the location on the Vista PC to \\XPPX\XPPrinter.... where XPPC is
the shared name of the XP PC and XPPrinter is the shared name of the Canon
    printer?

Info required to answer in more depth...

How is the Canon connected to the XP PC? Is it connected locally via USB or
are you actually using a Print Server... Note: An XP and Vista PC CANNOT be
a Server, Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008 are Server operating systems
which support unlimited connections. XP and Vista are workstation operating
systems, with limitations of 5 or 10 maximum simultaeous connections. If
you are using a Print Server, what is assigning the TCP/IP address to the
printer? What is the make/model of the print server? Does it have the
latest firmware? Is it supported by Vista?

Can the Vista PC 'see' the files and folders on the XP PC... ? Are they in
the same Workgroup? Is the printer correctly shared (if connected to the XP
PC) and the shared name of the printer 12 characters or less with no spaces
    and no illegal characters?

There are at least a dozen or more questions I could ask, but let's start
    with those first.

Hey, sorry for the lack of info, thought there wasn't more to add than what the topic said.

    the answers to your questions:
Have you tried connecting the Canon to the Vista PC
No, I haven't. I will try this now. What do you mean by changing the location on the Vista PC? Like changing computer name to that of the printer server's name, or manually find the printer?

How is the Canon connected to the XP PC?
USB to a Windows XP Home Edition, stripped and optimized for "server" stuff.

Can the Vista PC 'see' the files and folders on the XP PC... ? Are they in
    the same Workgroup?

Yes, for me this printer works for all the XP's in the house, and also my 32bit Vista laptop. It's only my 64bit vista that doesn't work.

Connecting the printer to the vista 64 works. I can print as well.

I installed the vista add-on module on both PC's, but when putting the printer back on the 32bit XP, and then adding it in Vista 64, I still got the same error message as always:

The server for the 'Canon i560' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver.

    SOLUTION :::::

Okay guys, I found a solution:
Go to control panel -> printer

    Add a printer ->
    Add a local printer
    Create a new port

enter the address of the printer as the port name (\\aserver\aprinter) for example, voila!

WOW! Thanks for the solution. I too had this problem. Local printer and defining a local port works great.
