Wow! That Adam is SO sure of himself. He should consider the "unlikely"(?) possibility that he is wrong, and doesn't have all the answers.
This is a known Vista bug. It affects image folders not resident on the local PC hard disk. i.e. CD/DVD-ROM, mapped network drives, USB drives. There is a policy setting in Vista that controls the display of thumbnails on network drives. It is intended to speed up access to folders across slower networks. However it screws up occasionally.
The Fix:
--------
It requires a simple registry fix (twice) and a couple of reboots. Make sure you back up your registry before making changes.
Open REGEDIT and drill down to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer".
If there is not a Key named Explorer, Create one. (With Policies selected, Right click right-hand pane, New/Key Explorer)
Select the /Policies/Explorer/ Key.
Edit or Create the DWORD "DisableThumbnailsOnNetworkFolders" and set its value to decimal 1. (Yep! you have to turn the feature on in the registry and then turn it off again - this is the bug.)
Reboot your PC.
Try your folders again at this stage. Just doing what I have described will sometimes fix the problem, otherwise ... continue
Open REGEDIT and again and drill down to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer".
Delete the DWORD "DisableThumbnailsOnNetworkFolders" you created earlier.
Reboot again and the problem should be rectified.
Save this post in a txt file on your desktop, as you may need it again. The problem tends to re-occur.
