I am trying to use Vista Ultimate Backup for the first time and am receiving
the error message: 0x80070002 the system cannot find the file specified.
This occurs regardless whether I attempt a complete or just files backup.

I have seen this error message in the past. Please search for this error
message and the author "Armstrong108" to read the earlier posts on this.
I was on that thread. Same story. MSFT tech guy created another "user" or
whatever then he deleted it and stuf quit working. The problem is i don't
know how to delete that "registry scrap" or whatever its called. Can you
tell me how to find and destroy it?
Off the top of my head, no, I can't tell you how to do this. This is a lame
answer I know, but the people who have done this successfully have done so
unassisted so I don't know what they changed or deleted. I am not that
familiar with how user profiles are stored in the registry and I wouldn't
want to guess how to fix this on your system. You might try posting a
separate topic and maybe one of the MVPs out there can walk you through
this.
Based on the 30-40 hours of time wasted with Microsoft's "official" paid tech
support and the number of posts on this problem I figure it would be faster
to reinstall the OS. I just wish I could backup first. The third party
software like StorageSync seems to still work but I'm going to check file for
file to make sure all of my info is working on another PC first. It is
simply amazing to me that Vista could be released in this condition of
dissaray.
