    System Restore won't execute

When I attempt to open System Restore I get an error message:

"There was an unexpected error. filename, directory name or volume label
    syntax is
incorrect. (0x8007007b). System Restore will now close."

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

    Thanks in Advance!

Could you enlighten the rest of us as to the source of your issue?

For some reason my system restore was not set to protect the local boot
drive (Vista). Once I set it for the Vista boot drive, the the system
restore functioned properly...and no more error message. I have no clue as
to how it defaulted to a different drive letter.

The link provided by the previous user isn't working right now. Here is the message I get when trying to access system restore in Vista.

    ---------------------------
    System Restore
    ---------------------------
    There was an unexpected error:

    The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

    System Restore will now close.
    ---------------------------
    OK

System Restore file is most likely corrupted. To correct this, you need to
turn it off by unchecking it, reboot the computer by selecting Shutdown and
restart and and then go back and turn it on again. You will then start
building new Restore points. Make a manual Restore point as soon as you turn
    it on.

    RE: System Restore won't execute

    Hello,

This will probably not be your solution but it is easy and can't hurt to try.

Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain
conditions that could cause installing updates and “other software not to
    work”.
0x80070057 ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER The parameter is incorrect.

    Good luck

    Re: System Restore won't execute

I saw your messages after I went and deleted all my restore points. That did fix the problem but wasn't what I wanted to do. In case it happens again will the last couple posts help fix the problem without me having to delete the restore points again?
