Some Vista Updates stuck at "pending"...

I have a windows vista ultimate installed which runs pretty smoothly
except that on checking the installed updates I noticed that some that of them were still "pending" despite having apparantly downloaded.
I have downloaded them seperately and they still don't install - they instead throw up an error message about the update not applying to my system.

I.e (important) Security Update KB925902 - List in the "view update history" as still pending - Double-Clicking on it gives an error code - 80242014 as well as what the update is and a link to the update page.

Anybody have any ideas about how to get them to install.

Thanks for the reply,Sorry for the delay in trying your fix - was busy :)

I have already tried downloading the updates manually and when I try to install them the update wont install - instead it tells me that the update does not apply to my system.
If I go to the "Installed Updates" window The updates appear there and I can uninstall them.I can then reinstall with the manual update (including the one you linked to).
However (even after rebooting) when I go to "View update History" window those same updates still appear as "pending".
Maybe the updates are installing - it's just their status that is'nt changing? (since the updates appear in installed updates).
The "pending" updates are from the same day (the day of my Vista install) when my PC crashed while updating a device driver (my DVB-T card) as well as those updates. I rebooted the machine finished downloading and installing the updates and never checked their status. All subsequent updates have installed "Succesfully".

Is there any way to "reset" the installed updates window/log in case something got corrupted during the crash and it is in fact displaying the wrong
thing.

Any thoughts/fixes greatly appreciated

I have exactly the same error, cant remove the pending the installs to let
the system install them again and cant install them via the standalone
installers.

I know what triggered mine, my updates were all stuck and wouldnt complete
and the same update was on for over an hour so i have to force shutdown and
ever since the remaining downloads are showing pending.

That would explain it Ck. You might check in "C:\Users\(your
username)\Appdata\Local\WindowsUpdate" to see if anything else is in
there other than these files: "OptIn", "AuthCab", & then
"tempauthcab.cab". This is a hidden file, so you'll have to have "Show
Hiiden Files" checked 1st.

Ck - You came up with the same solution that I did! :) (a Reinstall)
Brink - At least I have I something to try if it ever happens again although I now do Acronis image backups before updates

Yeah tinybilbo,

HAHA, I use the Acronis to myself. Reinstalling is not hard, it's the
time it takes to put everything else on & to adjust all my preferences.
Acronis is much easier.
