Yeah - there's about three codecs you could likely use here--
    divx
    ffdshow
    xvid

I don't know which one you have right now. FFDShow is very popular but can
be a little intrusive. xvid is still largely at a development stage. So it
might be wisest to try the latest official DivX build (6.5 or so).

Under WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information menu tool, what
specific codecs does it say you have installed?

    Re: Movie Maker Green Bar

I'm experiencing similar symptoms to what Mark described. When I use Movie
Maker to process an XVID file and it then calls DVD Maker, the resulting DVD
has a green bar across the lower-half of the screen. When I use Movie Maker
to convert the XVID file to WMV format, the resulting .WMV file has the green
    bar, too.

When I launched DVD Maker manually and added the XVID file myself, the
resulting content does not have the green bar. So this appears to be a
problem with XVID files in Movie Maker.

The *menu* on the resulting DVD, however, *does* have the green bar. Once
the Play link is pressed and the content begins to play, however, the green
bar disappears. Not sure what is causing this; could the menu creation
feature that DVD Maker uses be hampered by the same problem that is causing
Movie Maker to generate the green bar?

zachd, do you have any suggestions on how to: a) get rid of the green bar
from the files that Movie Maker generates? b) get rid of the green bar from
the menu that DVD Maker generates?

I've had this same problem with Windows Movie Maker. All the movies that I burn using this device come out fine.. only on the menu screen do the green bars appear. They also like to show up on the windows for the select a scene feature. After hearing the concern about downloading that Codec Package I definately don't want to do that and make my Vista bad. By the way most of my Movies are XVid or copies of Dvdrips.. I hear that it could be Copyright problems..could anyone explain what the copyright thing might do? Oh BTW I do have the XVid Codec installed as well

I too have made a movie with movie maker and after publishing it to my
computer it has a two inch green bar towards the top puching hte whole clip
upwards. It does not appear throughout the movie, only on certain clips. I
want to be able to fix it, but am leary about downloading anything. I have
th Xvid codec on my computer, and it works to play those vodeos, but when I
take them and put them into movie maker they are the same ones with the green lines

    Re: Movie Maker Green Bar

I had the same problem. The video once its published runs through filters eg. DivX Decoder or DivX Encoder. My problems mainly lied with DivX, which created that green bar on the botton of my published movies. However once I removed that filter, I no longer had the problem. What you have to do is click on > Tools (in the above bar where you will see Files, Edit, View etc.) > Options > Compatibility (once there you remove the required filters in order to remove the green bar at the bottom, the filters there will differ depending on what you have installed on your computer). I'm not sure if this method will help you, all I know is that it helped me remove the green bar.

    Hope I've helped.
