Desktop Windows Manger (DWM.exe) Priority Issuse HELP NEED ASAP

I request that MS release a patch to change this back to Normal on startup?

I waz wonder why DWM.exe waz lagging my pc for ages and I relases on reboot
and start up that the dwm.exe gets a high Priority be defult.

how do I manual change the Priority back to normal on start up so I don't
have to keep opening taskmgr all the time and right click>set priority>normal

Why don't you start off with WHAT PROBLEM dwm.exe being on high is causing
you. Maybe something else is wrong?

on hihg spikes the cpu at 70% :( so I want MS to realse a patch to fix this

The reason I wondered what was wrong is that I haven't seen that problem on
any machine, even low powered ones. I'll have to look up the x700 and start
    there.

What exactly is lagging? You do know what DWM IS right? What it does?

    There's a reason it's set to high,
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb188739.aspx

    ----------------
    Desktop Window Manager
In Windows XP and earlier operating systems, applications draw their
graphics directly on the screen asynchronously, which occasionally leads to
inconsistent displays. In order to eliminate some of the issues generated in
this scenario, Windows Vista includes a Desktop Window Manager (DWM). The
DWM is effectively a Direct-3D application that controls the display and
update of windows on the desktop by aggregating screen content (sometimes
called compositing), and then drawing it as a finished image on the user's
    display.

DWM brings two primary enhancements to Windows Vista, both enabled through
WDDM. One of them is an overall improvement in quality, and the other is a
signature user experience, called Windows Aero.

As mentioned earlier, Windows XP applications update the screen directly,
and this happens asynchronously with respect to the monitor's refresh rate.
Having multiple applications update the same screen in close proximity can
result in the user seeing windows tearing, or occasional images that appear
incorrectly or slowly. By drawing the entire image from one place, DWM
eliminates both issues, giving a very high quality desktop experience. The
user has a much leaner experience, and a more responsive system.

Windows Aero is Windows Vista's highest performing desktop experience. The
DWM makes the experience possible, and requires a machine with appropriate
graphics, including WDDM support, and one of the appropriate Windows Vista
product editions. Aero features include Live taskbar thumbnails for running
applications, DPI scaling, Windows Flip and Flip 3D, and the transparent
glass design on the displayed windows on the desktop. Aero gives the user an
outstanding user experience, putting a stylish effect on the UI of any
application, and is particularly complimentary with Windows Presentation
    Foundation applications.

    --------------

This gives screen updates priority over most other processes on the system,
and remember, how fast and smooth the images are rendered is usually how one
judges (really, perceives) how fast and smooth their machine is running.

Frankly, I'm puzzled since my machine isn't lagging (3 GHz P4 HT with 1G
RAM) at all, and I usually have a few memory and CPU hogging applications
    running at once.

Setting the priority of DWM to "Normal" actually seems to slow down my
machine a bit, by that I'm citing noticeable lag when dragging windows
    around, using Flip 3D, etc.

Something is wrong with your system (have you updated the video drivers?)
I've never seen DWM go any higher than 12% on my system, and that was moving
Media Player around the screen with a video playing, so if yours is peaking
at 70% or more, the DWM is working a lot harder than it should have to.

Oh, one more thing I'd like to point out . . .

DEMANDING patches in a primarily user to user help group is going to get you
    exactly nothing.

By x700 I'm assuming he means the Radeon x700 . . . this is the exact same
    card that I have.

I simply can't find this card causing this issue anywhere else. Does this
card give you this problem in Vista?

OTOH you could try telling Microsoft, this is a public NG not MSFT
support, you get help here because people feel like it. MSFT may well
monitor this but any help or answers supplied are entirely voulentary.

As a quick guess your PC is not really up to Vista, dwm.exe is to do
with the Aero Glass effects thats why its so slow its spending all its
time making your desktop pretty innit, turn it off and it should be
    better.

FWIW dwm.exe can also be a Virus but since Vista is so secure I doubt
    its that.

google "dwm.exe" very informative and more helpful than whining on
about getting a patch made issued for you.

Re: Desktop Windows Manger (DWM.exe) Priority Issuse HELP NEED ASAP

I think you have a problem. But not the one you state.

On newsgroups you talk about problem. You are talking about how to implement
something you've come up with. And you can't do it. That should make you
take stock. If your brilliant idea doesn't seem to be implementable maybe
    you should reconsider it.

Vista is designed to have DWM run on high. The reasons for that decision
seems obvious (speed of display). Maybe the program has to listen to the
videocard driver as well talking to it. Maybe it doesn't want to block all
the other programs running as they all have to talk to to get anything on
    screen.

But we can assume nearly everyone has DWM on high pirority and that it
works. Therefore your conclusion that DWM priority is a problem is wrong (it
could be a workaround for the problem). Therefore researching your question
is a waste of time. It may or may not be possible. I can think of a few
approaches to take. But it doesn't solve any problem you have and I suspect
    will make things worse.

Start a new post, talk about symptoms, talk about what TS steps you took,
mention anything relevent. Don't draw conclusions because they become
misleading to everyone because everyone else has to reley on you for info.
You should certainly mention them as a hypothsis as they can then be tested
    and accepted or rejected.

I guess DWM was high CPU cycles (was 70% mentioned) and you said the system
wasn't responsive? Can you the info into one post and try to give concrete
    examples.
