vaio laptop hardware key, screen brightness, update problem

I have a sony vaio laptop vgn-ax570g after installing vista home premium, the
fn hotkey does not work, so I can't adjust screen brightness. tried
installing sony updates, but whenever I try, the update states that it does
not recognize my model number, even though the updates are for my model
number. one update even said that the update I was trying to download was
for windows vista only, which is what I have, and it did not let me load it.
    sony support sucks. any ideas??

While the following components might be on your computer, your registry may
not be up to snuff. Download and install the following files from the two
links given, in the following order (the order is fairly important):

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...eType=Original

    1. Sony® Notebook Control Device Driver

    2. Sony® Shared Library

    3. Sony® Notebook Utilities

    4. Sony® SmartWi™ Connection Utility

    and

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...teType=Updates

    5. VAIO® Event Service Update (09/13/2006)

The last update, while it talks about "monitors", is what got my Vaio
Laptop's buttons and function keys to finally work correctly on Vista,
including the auto-dimmer and DVD player eject button. My Wi-Fi button
works, too. After downloading, unblock each file in the file's properties
dialogue, on the General tab, and then Run each installer as Administrator,
by right-clicking on each (*.exe) file. While meant for XP, these should
work on Vista. Avoid downloading drivers from Sony that are not Vaio
specific and are for components from non-Sony manufacturers (e.g., display,
network, sound drivers, etc., as these should be Vista specific; there are
some minor exceptions, which I won't get into at this point). Let me know if
you still have problems, after trying this....

    Addendum (sorry):

Also, you should download and install this, perhaps before the VAIO® Event
Service Update (making the VAIO® Event Service Update number 6):

    5. Sony® Utilities DLL Update (07/17/2006)

computer model. i reset the bios and i got my screen brightness up but i

    In need of hotkey fix

I've recently upgraded my Sony Vaio VGN-SZ240P to Vista Ultimate and am experience problems with my S1/S2 Hotkeys. I have attempted to install the following fixes from Sony's site:

    Shared Library Update
    Utilities DLL
    Event Services
    Setting Utility Services

I was able to successfully install the first 3, but received an error message when I tried the 4th - it was something like "This update can only be run on Windows Vista."

Note: After installing the first 3 updates I regained use of my function keys (ie brightness/volume adjustment)...I'm guessing the 4th update is the one that helps with the hotkeys. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing other updates that sound like they will enable the
installation of that update after they have been installed.

I'd say that Sony® Discovery Tool for Windows VistaT might be a good
    candidate.

Updates not recognizing my Sony computer model

When I try to install any drivers or updates for my Sony VGN-FE770G, the error message I get is: This program is not intended for use with your computer model. I read that the significant file in this process is C:\WINDOWS\MODEL.TXT and it can be modified.

I upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium four months ago, and this problem started happening only a week ago.

Also, Windows Switch Setting Utility does not work properly, causing lags when I try to connect to a wireless network.

Sony eSupport has been no help after many hours.

    Please help if possible.
