    Cannot Complete Assessment

The Windows Experience Index failed with the following popup:

    ----

    Cannot complete assessment.

The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is
due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other
    component.

    ----

How can I debug this error and find the resolution?

    Thanks,

    Neil

    Re: Cannot Complete Assessment

I have seen this when a computer has a video card that is totally
incompatible (in one case it was a Nvidia MX400 - DX4 with 128 meg of RAM).
Vista still installed and ran, it just couldn't give an assessment reading.
And, of course, Aero was non existent.

Almost the same happens to me, but the error message says: "This system does
not have the necessary multi-media support to run the requested assessment"

But it worked the first 2 or 3 weeks after clean install of Vista Ultimate.
    I have a NVidia GeForce 7600GS.

    RE: Cannot Complete Assessment

I get the same message everytime now also. I'm glad I looked on here. I am
now thinking it has something to do with Nvidia drivers. I'm running a
7600GS (512MB Nvidia card) with the latest drivers. My computer runs through
ALL of the tests and when I expect it to spit out a value, gives me the same
error as below. Can one of the Microsoft techs monitoring this discussion
please pass any information they have or pass this information on to Nvidia?

    RE: Cannot Complete Assessment

I have the same error and I have an MSI 8600GT OC with full DX10 support.
I've tred everything. Including the latest nvidia drivers installed as the
admin. My score even disappeared for awhile.

Its a problem card. Did you find Vista drivers for your cards.

    Re: Cannot Complete Assessment

I have the latest Vista drivers. I've also run all the diagnostics on my OS.
Right now my assessment score is a 4.0 (Unrated). I was able to get a
successful rating when I first installed Vista, which is good, otherwise I
wouldn't be able to run Aero...I think that is the only performance hit that
the assessment can give you. I found that my error is happening around when
it tries to run a certain *.wmv file. I found the file and it isn't corrupt
and works. It just fails during the assessment. Frustrating. I'm not going
to reformat because of it though...haha. My computer's performance is not
being hindered at all. It just sucks knowing something isn't right
somewhere. Any Microsoft techs reading these?
