    Policy Enabled blocking driver install

    Hello all,

I have serched through the policies on VISTA and cannot locate under
'secpol.msc' a policy that restricts me from installing earlier versions of
drivers. (label printer specific). I need to allow this driver to install and
not to get the message... "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The printer
driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks
    NT 4.0 drivers" -

The driver is specific to the label printer (post office software - oh
dear!) could someone direct me to the policy!

    Regards. Dave

drivers for Vista. Hope someone has a solution!!!

I figured out how to do this. You have to create a new port, install the latest driver even if it is for XP. When you add the printer, do not select the network printer option. Select the add local printer.

Re: Policy Enabled blocking driver install

I dont think this will work as i am having the same issue with a label printer, and if i am correct, this error occurs when trying to connect to a 'shared' printer via another PC with USB and not when installing a Networked printer which is what your solution of creating a port will effectivly do.
