Thank you for saying you found the answer. I needed to hear that someone has
solved the problem. I have been working on the problem for 2 days now with
no success. I went to your link and read the information, but I'm just a
novice and need more specifics like: step 1, step 2 etc. Can you help?
    Thanks

I followed some steps but made it simpler but just renaming the file:

    1.Exit all Office programs.
2.Click *Start*, click *Run*, type regedit, and then click *OK*.
3.Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version
of Word that you are running:
    •Word 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\10.0\Word\Data

    •Word 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\11.0\Word\Data

    •Word 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data

    4.rename the file to: Olddata.reg
    5.Exit Registry Editor.
6.Start Word. If Word starts and works correctly, you have resolved the
problem. The problem was a damaged Word Data registry key. You may have
to change several settings to restore your favorite options in Word.

    Good luck

    Hello -

I had the exact same problem with Windows 2007 (not letting me
select/edit any typed-in text). I followed the directions in KB921541
(for Vista). I have no idea what caused this condition.

Using the directions in the article, after deleting the specified
    registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

I was able to restart Word 2007 without the problem. The directions
indicate that you may export your Word settings, but I really don't care
to try and reproduce what few settings I had. Just glad it started
    working.

Many thanks to the person(s) who pointed out this KB article!

i believe that this is only happening to people who have vista.. I
never ran into this issue with my XP machine running MSoffice 07 or seen
    any posting on it.

Im curious also, Im a amature graphic artist... I do developing on
'IMVU: 3D Avatar Chat Instant Messenger & Dress Up Game'
(http://www.imvu.com) and I also use a wacom board. And also had to run
the synmatic pointer updates... maybe there is a connection to this?

Im trying the fix now.. I have the same issue. I cant select text nor
can i activate my MS OFFICE2007 no wizard shows up???? and when i go to
WORD options.. i cant select anything it is like one giant unselectable
    picture.

Wish me luck i be back in a few minutes after i reboot.

Add-ins cause problems with Mouse input in Word 2007
While using Microsoft Office 2007, Word started refusing mouse input. I could not select text, use the right OR left button within the text area. Some menu buttons worked while others did not. My mouse worked normally in other applications. I found the following article: "[Word 2007] Mouse Doesn't Work (i.e. Can't Highlight Text)" and a common thread was observed; add-ins cause problems.

    http://help.lockergnome.com/office/W...ict936907.html

I found that two Adobe Acrobat add-ins were enabled on my own system. I disabled them both and the problem was resolved.

To be able to click the menus necessary, you will need to hold CTRL down while starting Word 2007. Office will prompt you to ensure that you intentionally wanted to start office in "Safe Mode". Click OK to continue. Click on the Office ball and then Click "Word Options" on the lower right. Next click Add-Ins on the left menu.

At the bottom of the screen ensure that "Manage COM Add-ins" is selected and click GO

Next un-check the add-ins you want to remove or disable. I ONLY disabled mine - I also did NOT perform the registry hacks suggested in the full link above.

Close Word and re-open. The mouse should be able to click/select text.

It is possible that updating Adobe would have resolved this issue, but clearly a problem exists. Someone else pointed out again in the article above that the problem might surround elevated security permissions in Windows Vista.

Ive found the solution, its really quite simple.
This completely restores all functions, and solves the problem of word crashing on exit

On the ACROBAT tab select PREFERENCES,
    and under APPLICATION SETTINGS
    select QUICK AND SIMPLE PDF

    VOILA!

    Problem solved
you may now thank me ^)__(^

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to say many thanks for this thread - I had this issue which
was fixed by taking out the reg keys. Took me a while of searching to
fix this issue which was really causing a headache!

Hi Everyone, Add me to the list of those that are having the same issue
with Microsoft Office Word 2007. Plus, I can't open a Word attachment
from email. I can save the attached document and then open it but,
can't open it from email. I also have been on the internet looking for
fixes but none have been found yet.
