Then I suggest you re-install because if not normal move can be made its corrupted. There is no such bug in all the Vista 64s that I visit to teach.

I give up. Theres no help to be found here.
Give up and go back to 32 and XP then. You don't appear to me to want to learn.

Jim,
I had the same problem and have the fix. Do the following:
1] Control Panel
2] Appearance and Personalization
3] Folder Options
4] Under the "General," "View," and "Search" Tabs hit "Restore Defaults"
(Not the "Restore Folders" Button".
This worked for me. Hope it works for you!

hi everyone that is having this issue dont know if you all have solved
the problem but i have been able to fix it with this
http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/FixSingleSelect.zip
I found this on windows website
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...1031&SiteID=17
right on, inseinempire. This the patch I used. Nothing else worked for me. you need to close all windows explorer windows before running the fix, as instructed.
hope this fix works for everyone!
I also have this problem -- I cannot select multiple files from Explorer
using Vista.
I tried deleting the bags from the registry, as suggested earlier, and tried
doing the reset all from the folder properties -- but I stil can NOT select
multiple files.
I cannot select them using the check boxes.
I cannot select them using the CTRL key method.
I cannot select them using the SHIFT key method.
I cannot select them using the mouse.
Vista does not allow me to select mutliple files. Period. And it is costing
me in lost time having to select each file individually when copying or
opening or moving or deleting.
I have yet to find anything about Vista that is better than XP -- and this
is obviously much worse.

fix you up?
This has been covered elsewhere before, I'm not attempting to discuss the
problem - which I believe is fixed in SP1(?), I'm not sure about any KBs or
QFEs here - merely to get you going again.

Hi,
Same debilitating problem on my Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium with
the impossibility to select multiple files or folders. I do believe that in
my case the headers were still visible. I regained my sanity with the
following:
Folder Options > View tab > Reset all folders
Answer YES to the following pop up
Click OK for Folder Options to close
I then did what was advised in a discussion group which I read and proceeded
to close Windows Explorer and opened it again, and to my relief the ability
to select multiple files/ folders was restored. I didn't need to fidget with
something in the registry, thanks for that!!!
Please note that these operations were performed after I had Aero
neutralized, since I read that it was problematic. Maybe you'll be able to
breath again, I hope so.
A bug that annoying in something so central as Windows Explorer deserves to
be called a dragonfly or a bumblebee.

That only worked for several months on my copy of vista.. then suddenly it
didn't work at all. There seems to be no keyboard shortcut (i.e. Shift+click
or Ctrl+click) which works. Nor does selecting Icon View and then trying to
drag a box.
