    RC2 AERO FIX

    Hi all,

I found information on another site that I would like to pass along.
They say that RC2 has a problem with enabling AERO when RAM is less that 1GB.
    They found a work around.

1/ Ensure that you have the following registry value set to :

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\Composition set to 1 (32-bit DWORD)

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\CompositionPolicy set to 2 (32-bit DWORD)

2/ Restart DWM by opening a command prompt with administrative privileges :

    - Type 'net stop uxsms'
    - Then 'net start uxsms'

    It works!!!
I only have 512MB and AERO worked before with Beta 2, RC1 and RC1 5728. It
    now works in RC2.

    Re: RC2 AERO FIX

Your fix work for me even though earlier builds gave me aero and RC2 would
not even show it. Registry key fixed the problem after I rebooted.

    RE: RC2 AERO FIX

    Hi. I have VISTA RC2 Build 5744. I have 512Mb of Ram on a P4 3GHz and an ATI
Radeon 9550 with 256 MB of RAM. I don't see AERO or at least AERO Glass. I
tried the above method but I was not successful. I created to two entries in
the Registry (there was nothing like this before). When I tried to open a
command prompt and type what was suggested, I got an error saying System
Error 5, Access is denied. I am the administrator of this machine.

My Windows Eperience index is 2.9 because of the RAM. My two graphics score
are 3.6 and 3.3. How do I enable AERO Glass? Any clues?

    Thanks!

command prompt window does not allow any more drag and drop operation.
Maybe that safety feature (sic!) has something to do with your problem?

Works for me, but I don't think the problem is if you have less than 1GB of
ram b/c I have 1 GB and I had the problem.

    RE: RC2 AERO FIX

It is not working for me though my computer is fast enough.
I can see Aero when Windows is starting, I quickly open the start menu and
can see the transparancy. However this is gone after a couple of seconds.
Windows Aero is also not available from the color sheme select list.
    I'm running RC 2 Build 5744

Did you pay attention to the advice given in Help and Support of Vista
    when typing in 'Aero'?

Yes I did, all options the help said were already done, 32 bit, > 10 hz,
vista theme etc. I just can't find the Aero theme listed. I tried
reinstalling Vista and tried installing ATI drivers, retested it, no
difference. My lowest score is 4.1 highest is 5.9

All I show available under that Registry entry is Composition Policy, there
is no entry for Composition. Must be my graphics driver.
