    RE: RC2 AERO FIX

Same problem here. Aero used to work. Turned it off because some program said
it did not like Aero. Never has worked since. No way to turn it back on.
Suggested fix does not work here.
    Windows Aero theme is unavailable.

    Whoops.
I missed the "with administrator privileges" part.
    Tried again.

    Re: RC2 AERO FIX

RC2 is no longer allowed to be used - your license to use RC2 expired on the
commercial release of the product (some significant tie ago).
So forget working on RC2 and move to the final and now SP1'd product.

If you have to ask how to get into the Registry than you have no business
being in it. The slightest mistake can and WILL trash your whole system.

I'm sure it does, Paul. But HOW SLUGGISHLY does it run? Was it
really worth it to get transparent menus, etc? What good are they if
you don't have enough memory to run programs which can USE them?

    To "bobo":
To "get into" the Registry, do this:

    1) Click on the Windows Orb (the Start Button)
    2) Open the "Run" dialog
    3) Enter this command: "regedit" [without the quote marks], then
    strike the <Enter> key

    There ya go.

Others have warned you of the dangers of a total nubie stomping all
over his registry. I won't repeat the warning, since you are
[hopefully] an adult who can make his own decisions [and his own
    mistakes].

NOW, if you screw up your machine, PLEASE don't come asking for any
more help, since you've already been warned of the dangers of YOU in
particular messing around with your Registry.

Instead of trying to make a machine run AERO which was probably never
built for Vista in the first place, do the best you can with what you
have WITHOUT trampling all over your Registry in complete ignorance.

Or, spend the money [memory is cheap as popcorn nowadays] to put
another GB in your machine, and use AERO without hacking up your
    Registry.
