    Soundmax drivers

Does anyone know if Asus intend releasing updated Soundmax audio drivers for
    vista ?
I have emailed them on this issue but all I get is an auto response thanking
me for my interest, but no real response.
The drivers in question are for a socket 478 board (P4P800S-X) I'm getting
this bad feeling that they may not offer updates for this board anymore
considdering it's age and the fact that since it's release newer models have
    come on the market.

I've got a K8V which is not that old. I'm sure they'll get around to it. A
lot of people have Soundmax on their board. Right now, though, the generic
"VIA AC'97" that Vista installed seems to be working fine.

    Re: Soundmax drivers

The "VIA AC'97" works for me too but it doesn't give me sound in media
    center
To have sound in media center I have to install the XP drivers for soundmax
in compatibility mode, the main issue with that is that occasionally it
stops working and I need to reinstall the drivers.

    Re: Soundmax drivers

That is exactly the same for me and the default driver doesn't give 5.1
surround or give me sound in media center either
The Xpo drivers installed in compatibility mode do give me sound in media
center but it's only basic stereo, It won't give me 5.1 surround because the
codec that comes with the Xp drivers isn't supported in viata media center.
So as far as I can tell at this stage I'll either have to wait untill fully
supported drivers are released, or buy a sound card that is fully supported
    by vista.

    Re: Soundmax drivers

Try using the driver that came with the motherboard ( the original driver).
I had the same problem. Vista installed a driver during setup and I had no
audio in Media Center. I installed the original driver that came with the
motherboard and everything works fine now.

    Beware Vista Drivers

    Re: Soundmax drivers

    It's the same at me.

I have normal Sound too (I have a K8V and the SoundMax Driver) I have Stereo
Sound but If I want to see the Surround Settings on my SoundMax Driver, Vista
    blocks it.

Vista says: You don't decide this for your favorite Player. Click on
Multimedia to change this. But there is nothing.

If I click on OK Vista hides my Sourround Changing Properties:

Sry for my English. I'm from Germany :)

    Same Motherboard/Audio Chip

I have the same ASUS Motherboard and found that my audio files would suddenly stop playing regardless of the media player. I spent hours with a Microsoft tech since this only happened after I "upgraded" to Vista. I learned that the speaker configuration does not stick. I have to go and reconfigure the speakers for stereo before the audio files can play again:
Right click on speaker icon in system tray
    Select "Playback Devices"
Click on the SoundMax Integrated Audio icon
    Select "Configure"
If "Stereo" is the default, click on "Quadraphonic" (or vice versa)
Select "Test" and you should hear sound
Cancel out and then repeat, selecting Test for Stereo.
Click OK, OK and Finish to complete reconfigure.

You may need to relaunch your player for the sound to work. This is a pain, but it is the best I have found in the absence of a Vista audio driver to this point.

I may try another suggetion from the ASUS forum for this motherboard:
    - Search for newer ASUS boards that have the same audio chip. These may have an Vista driver to download
