Windows Aero missing in color scheme section

Hi, I have a Hp Pavillion computer with windows vista home premium and somehow I could not get Windows Aero to work. When I first had this computer, I had Windows Aero running with all the translucent effects. So I do know that my computer is compliant with windows aero but its somehow disabled. My computer automatically changed to windows vista basic. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,

Click start, type 'services.msc' and hit <enter> to open the services
control applet. Scroll down and restart the Theme service. Double click it
and make sure it's set to automatic as the startup option.

FYI - your machine will run faster if you stick with the non-aero
    scheme.

tried it but still no luck; could it be some of the programs I am currently running that is incompatible with the Aero scheme? If so, any suggestions on which programs I should uninstall

No, I did not get a video driver update recently. All I got was a message saying something like windows aero was not compatible with the software you are running and has automatically changed to window vista basic

An incompatible program might force Aero off before it runs but you can
usually turn it back on again after closing the program.

Did you perhaps get an automatic video driver update recently? You can try
reinstalling the OEM video driver, or those from the video card/chipset
manufacturer, or do a system restore to a point where Aero was still
    working.

Re: Windows Aero missing in color scheme section

I know windows aero uses up a lot of RAM but it is a lot nicer than the plain windows live basic theme. Since, I have windows vista home premium I should get the premium visual experience of windows aero. Like I said before, I really enjoyed windows aero and had it running before. I am almost a 100% sure that a program is running that is incompatible with windows aero. So all I am asking is are there any suggestions on which programs I should uninstall that are incompatible with windows aero? Feedback greatly appreciated.

If your windows performance index dropped below a certain point, aero
would be unavailable to you. Again, if your system is that marginal, I
would recommend not using aero. But, your choice.

I don't think anyone here can tell you what to remove, since we don't
know what you have installed. Do you know what you have installed
    recently since aero was working?

In general, I would look in the startup area and shut off anything you
    don't need.

I suggest that you "uncheck" rather than delete items so that you can
    turn them back on later.

You can also run -> MSconfig

You should start up services.msc and shut down any services that start
up automatically that you don't need. Go slow if you are unfamiliar.
This site can help with some of those.

You can also shut off Windows Search Indexing and install Agent
Ransack as an alternative search tool.

I think I installed the AVG anti-virus program, Microsoft word 2003, and Team viewer. I believe my AVG anti-virus program and Microsoft word 2003 should be compatible with Windows Aero. I might be wrong though. Any suggestions? What I was trying to say before was, are any of you guys know familiar programs that aren't compatible with Windows Aero? Like I heard, Quicktime and any Java Programs could interfere with Windows Aero. I am not sure.
