5.1 speakers on laptop (toshiba satellite x200) reading as stereo

Something went wrong with my Toshiba satellite x200 laptop running with Windows Vista Ultimate. When I check my 5.1 speakers properties in the control panel it only shows Stereo. Whereas my laptops 4x harmon kardon speakers is listed as 5.1 speakers in the specs. I thought it could be the drivers problem hence I downloaded the realtech drivers from Toshiba’s office page and installed. Still it wont show up as 5.1 in the config. Anyone having any idea for the same.

I checked Toshiba satellite x200 specs and according to the same there are 5 stereo speakers and one sub woofer, and hence there should be the 5.1. Are you using your Vista Control panel for configuring the speakers ? I don’t think it should be there. You better call Toshiba support and ask help from them regarding this.

Hey guys, were you able to find any fix for the same? Even I am using Toshiba and Vista with the same problem. Sound properties only show Setreo and the integrated Subwoofer is silent. I think the subwoofer only works with the default drivers that come with your laptop because the problem started since I updated drivers for my entire system. But there should be some trick or by hacking registry that can make the drivers work properly. Any suggestions ?
