This device cannot start. (Code 10) CDROM woes

I have a gigabyte motherboard which is running with a core 2 quad processor. I have 500gb seagate hard drive and also have a Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170S. I am running Window Vista with service pack 1 on my computer. Now the issue that i facing is that in the past this CD Rom used to work fine on this computer but now it has disappeared. When i checked in Device Manager then it was giving me a yellow mark and when i clicked on it then it gave me an error which says that "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". After that i reinstalled the driver for it and then the yellow mark was gone and it was able to read the cd's as well. But when i tried to burn any disk, then it would just hang at some percentage. After that i installed PowerDVD and in the Problem Reports and Solutions, it was giving me a message that there was an update to fix the cdrom issue. I installed this update but still nothing happened. Now, I have run out of ideas and want some help on it.

Even I am facing this same problem although I am not getting any yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I have a laptop which is running Windows Vista on it and i was first able to install the OS with the same dvd drive that i have right now. But after the installation of Vista, the dvd drive doesnt seem to appear in my computer or either in device manager. I have also tried to do the regedit thing but there are no files that i can find to delete. I hope that anyone knows a solution for this problem.

Have you all tried to update the latest drivers for your device. Also see to it that you have the latest service pack installed in your machine. By installing this service pack in your system, you get the patches to resolve different issues that are related to disappearing cd/dvd drive, full support for many kind of devices, etc. Also, you can test the same cd/dvd drive in some other computer and see if it is working or not, it not then the dvd drive might be probably dead. Also check the cable connecting it to the motherboard or the psu.
