Canon EOS Rebel XTi/EOS 400D not compatible with Windows Vista

I own a Gateway GT5464 Desktop. It came with Vista 32bit pre-installed. I also have a EOS 400D camera. I am not able to use it on my system. When connect it I am getting a error some incompatibility between Vista and it. I am not sure about any thing here. I checked on the Cannon website and downloaded some new driver update. I installed but still the camera is not detected by Vista. I found I need to install PTP in Vista. It is some Picture Transfer Protocol. I don't know from where I can locate it. How can I fix the same.

It looks this thing is bit not compatible with Windows Vista. I am not sure about this camera but some ago I was using one. It was a compact camera with memory card. After upgrading to Vista I found that the camera did not worked. It is not detecting neither it is allowing me to copy files from it. I contacted the official support center for help. They said that this is not compatible with Vista and you will need to use it on XP. So this are the things which are not notified before. I had installed XP on other partition and using the device.

What I know about this devices that they basically does not require a driver. They are kind of plug and play devices. The mp3 players, digital camera, or usb devices. And new OS like Vista has internal drivers for them. What you can see in Device Manager. You can try new hardware wizard and locate the update through Windows Update. It might help you. But if there is no driver available for that camera then you cannot do anything.
