Cannon Scanner not working in Windows Vista even when it is installed

I am using a Cannon scanner. It is installed and there is no error at all. I checked in Device Manager and it is listed well. Now when I fax or simply scan, it is not working. The scanner is Canoscan 8400. I had found Vista compatible drivers for the same. I can find that listed properly in printer and faxes but somehow it is not working. Does there any more thing I have to do to use it properly. Thanks.

Are you using Canon Imaging software. You can try to use some third party software for the same. There are many. If the scanner is installed then it must work properly. You can test that by running some test scan. There are some quick access buttons on the scanner. Try to scan through that and see where it stores the images. I will advice you to re-install that once. Go on Device Manager and right click on it. Then choose Uninstall. Then restart your system and install it again.
