Weird sound in hard drive after installing IDE ATA/ATAPI controller on Vista

I have a HP PC. It has 160IDE Hard drive. Now when I install Windows Vista, there is a weird sound in the hard drive. The same does not appear when I use Windows XP. There are two ATA Channel in the system. The first is Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controlers -24D1 abd the second is Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controlers -24DB. So just want to ask that does the drivers in Vista are responsible for sound. This sound does not come on Windows XP.

It looks bit illogical but it is true. I am having the same ATA controller on my system. Now on XP the drive use to work quietly but as Vista was added there was sound in the disc. It look Vista uses the driver lot forcing it spin at maximum. After a couple of days, the noise was silent and it started working normally.

It is due to indexing service of Vista. It indexes all the files so that you can access them quiet easily. It will go down on its own. Even if you are doubtful then you can try to update new drivers and check whether the same works fine or not.
