    Vista Display issues

I am running Windows Vista operating system on my Acer Travelmate 4052NLCI Laptop. I have a problem with the screen resolution on my laptop. When I try to use the setting of 800x600 resolution then it works fine on my Windows Vista system but when I try to use the 1024x768 resolution then it will stretch vertically and am not able to see the start menu and the taskbar. Is there anyone who is facing such problem and has fixed this problem?

It could be a video adapter driver problem and I also think that since you are using Windows Vista, so drivers for it wont be still available. You can go to the graphics chip manufacturer's website and then check if they have some updated drivers for your video. Also, could you please tell us what was the native resolution of your laptop screen. Before upgrading to Vista, were you facing any problem when running the 1024x768 resolution on your laptop?

There are many people who are having similar kind of issues that you have stated even me with my Acer TravelMate 4050 laptop. I was using Windows XP on this laptop and since i had nothing to do, one day i thought of updating all the drivers to the latest one. So i went to the intel website and downloaded the latest driver for the 82855 chipset. And with the same drivers the 1024x768 resolution stretched beyond the screen. I was not having any issues by keeping the 800x600 resolution. After that I went to the Acer website and downloaded the VGA drivers for my Acer TravelMate 4050 laptop from this link - http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/tm_2350.html. So, to my conclusion the Intel VGA driver 6.14.10.3691 are the one and only drivers that can allow 1024x768 resolution.

But after 2 months I installed Windows Vista on this laptop and again i started to get the same issue with the 1024*768, only 800x600 resolution was working fine. Again I downloaded the Intel driver 6.14.10.3691 and tried to install it in XP compatibility mode. After booting although the 1024x768 worked but vista was not able to enable the vga card in system manager telling me that there was some problem with the drivers. I contacted Acer about same but their support was useless. I am still hoping that someone who might be able to get the vga to working can help us out.

I dont think that the graphics card in the laptop has the required functionality in its hardware design that is supported in Windows Vista. You can check the link that is given below which explains why you need to upgrade to a better graphics card in order to get Windows Vista functioning on your computer:
