Incomplete download of Fallout: New Vegas Dead Money DLC from Steam

An hour or so again Dead Money became available for purchase and download via Steam. I paid for the add-on via credit card, and Steam then commenced downloading it. However, the only file Steam appeared to add to my Data folder was "Dead Money - Sounds.bsa", and on playing the game I do not get the radio message from the Sierra Leone casino. Does anyone else have this problem or a suggestion on how to fix it?

I assume it will not be properly downloaded until midnight or tomorrow I have not DLed it so I can't say for certain. But check your data files by clicking it when you start the game (before pressing play). And then check Dead Money. If it is not in there it is an incomplete download. Try downloading it again. I have never downloaded DLC from Steam earlier than so I can't say for sure how it works but it is activated the same way as mods.

It's not activated the same way, and indeed it's not stored in the same location if you have a legal copy. At least it wasn't for FO3 and if they had a method of auto loading official DLC then I don't see why they would abandon it now. You will not see it in your ESP list, even if it is legitimately installed, if it uses the old system. I also have Steam installed on a drive other than default. Windows 7 X64. I think I am working from my original install from release date. No issues with losing my saved files for anyone that may ask.

I had a similar problem, and after buying it noticed that Fallout New Vegas had downloaded an update (which is how DLC is delivered on Steam). But it turned out that it was FNV itself that had been updated earlier. I restarted Steam and the DLC immediately began downloading. The other thing you will need to do is tick the Dead Money DLC box in the "Data Files" section of the game launcher. It's not ticked by default for some inexplicable reason.

I have this problem. Restarting steam doesn’t work for me. The download size says it was 100.2MB and the only file that shows in the Steamapps/common/fallout new Vegas/data is DeadMoney-sounds.bsa. I know it is incomplete because the 100 MB is the exact size of the sound files. No textures or meshes BSA is in there or the DeadMoney.esm. Any help? Restarting steam doesn’t work and I just don’t know how to re-download it.

Well I am currently reinstalling Fallout New Vegas. The problem seems to be that Steam doesn’t install the other necessary files; these are DeadMoney-Main.bsa, DeadMoney.esm, and DeadMoney.NAM. So far my reinstall is at 32% so more Dead Money files may arrive. Steam certainly is the culprit if you’re Dead Money ESM is not installed. If so it is necessary to reinstall the New Vegas itself by right clicking on the corresponding title in the games library list and selecting delete local content. After it is finished re-click and select install game.

It is activated on the data files startup menu the same as mods. I now have it and it is an ESM (not ESP). But then you just click the check box and it should activate. And I have the FO3GOTY and it is the same way for the official DLC on there. As well utilize Steam to validate the local game cache files that fixed by incorrect download. Right click on New Vegas and then click properties. And then click local files, and you will see the option.

When DLC is installed, or any game for that matter, you should always exit Steam then re-open it. I've had problems like this especially with Valve games (odd huh?). I hope this helps you

    Dear Sirs,
If people still have problem downloading the DLC, or for any other DLC for that matter, you need to go to, for example "Dead money" dlc and press play, and this will then automatically start the download. It is quite quirky and stupid imo. But that is how Steam is build I guess.
