Playstation 3 Slim not working on LCD monitor

I have a PS3 slim, a non-HD TV and a dell e177fpc LCD monitor. I have anHDMI to DVI to VGA converter which connects to the LCD monitor and the RCA to my TV. When I select HMDI output from PS3, the screen just goes blank. Is there some trick that I am missing? What resolution should I put the monitor to before connecting to the PS3?

Does your Monitor support HDCP ?
