Earlier this year, the English of The Creative Assembly drew us right in the eighteenth century and invited us to shed blood on land and at sea in a terrifying frenzy of conquest. But everyone knows that war has no limits and never dies, especially when orchestrated by figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte.
Whatever the historical contexts addressed (ancient Rome, feudal Japan, medieval, eighteenth century), the series created by the English of The Creative Assembly has always put us in the bath with gameplay perfectly oiled mixing with elegance and efficiency sequences of management turn-based and epic clashes between thousands of men. But the time has come to look at a different period, a period which affects us all especially as this is the era of Napoleon's conquests, extending from late 18th to early 19th century.
Napoleon: Total War has been presented by developers as a sort of final version, something that would combine all the best ideas in the studio in a single title. The interest of this period was able to stage the meteoric rise of a fragile country to become the most powerful continental Europe. The strength of Napoleon was able to form a powerful army standardized before use in an absolutely unique, really upsetting all conventions martial of the time. The idea of an army pass standardized elsewhere beautifully on screen. All units are more detailed than ever and will delight undoubtedly enthusiasts. The game engine has apparently won it much finesse and The Creative Assembly has clearly tried to give an appearance of oil paint to her new baby. The result is truly stunning.
To get a complete picture of the Napoleonic wars, the studio decided to design three separate campaigns, a bit shorter than what we used simply to reflect the tactics of "Blitzkrieg" used by Napoleon. We will therefore first by Italy (1796-1797), where the Corsican name will be where it was not expected. The subject will push the Austrians to allow him to Vienna. You decide how. But beware of the terrain, the troops will suffer actual losses if they cross or camp in areas difficult. And morale has more importance than ever, you will hardly achieve your goals if you do not take care to keep your supply lines. The second campaign will lead us in turn to the Middle East (1798-1801) and will put us in command of troops cut off from France by the British navy. It will have to play fine locally recruiting and maintaining your flock. Finally, the third campaign take us back to Europe between 1805 and 1812, with France, strong but faces a swarm of vengeful enemies. To you, once again, to rewrite history.
On the battlefield itself, the generals (who all have a personality and talents) will now attempt to rally the troops routed. After all, Napoleon was known to show in the theater of operation. The app also includes 322 new units, all with unique characteristics! Even the famous naval battles in Empire: Total War will be the game. For if Napoleon was never able to dominate the seas, nothing prevents the player to risk it. However, critics have been heard and the game system was revisited accordingly. It will now be possible to repair ships in full combat. Much new to make the experience Total War really superb. However, Napoleon: Total War is currently scheduled for the first quarter of 2010, and again it is only one objective. It will have to wait a little longer before getting a date worthy of the name. Meanwhile, you can always resume your books of history and try to understand the mistakes of Napoleon, this can certainly be useful.
