    Just Cause 2 : First Look (Preview)

    There are nearly three years has made grope beds Rockstar by editing Just Cause. But despite his world open to dizzying proportions, the title developed by Avalanche Studios has failed to win the full support of the players. The second album will reach there to correct its few flaws (repetitive, empty environment, lack of activities)? Initial response at the end of our first encounter with the game .

Despite a late display that is easily excuse under the project, exploring some environments presented aroused the emotions of the assembly, inevitably seduced by the aesthetic success of these contrasting landscapes.

    A small passage through the debug menu of the console and we saw a demonstration of day / night cycle. Variations in lighting and weather conditions have been completed to convince us of this future success. Of clear and bright, the sky became dark orange and then brighten up again in the early hours of the day despite a heavy morning fog. Changes accompanied by a soundscape full of nuances. Depending on the time of the day, music will become more or less discreetly, to be silenced completely in the dark.     Technically, Just Cause 2 is based on the Avalanche Engine 2.0, changing the engine used on Just Cause's first name. Developed before the production of the game, it enables developers to display a record of great finesse. However, animations Rico have appeared a little stiff. Without going into detail, it is indeed the environments that take full advantage of the engine. Similarly the rich nuances of climate and light conditions are a strength of the technology developed by Avalanche.


    The side of gameplay as Just Cause 2 promises to bring much more variety. Recognizing the success of the sequences of free fall with players, the developers have decided to make them much more frequently by allowing Rico to break away from gravity with much more ease. The slightest jump from the roof of a building can now be concluded on the opening of the parachute. Better yet, the appearance of a grab as secondary weapon allows instant off. We just have to grab it to an element of decor and then to draw Batman for such amount in the air and open his parachute. Completely fanciful but frankly dismal.

    Uses Grapple look quite numerous. It is thus possible to use against enemies and send them waltzing in the scene, even the screen of bullets in flight. In the same vein, some objects can be towed by a blow dry and balanced on our attackers. In this respect, the targeting system should be improved. However, the small demonstration that we made did not seem totally convincing. The gunfights have seemed too rough due to lack of visibility in the view adopted.

    Too bad because the clashes should be commonplace. Finally the Avalanche Engine 2.0 looks very promising. There is therefore only hope that the Swedish studio have enough time to fine tune the project and perhaps we can discover a great game for the end of this year.
