Speed Up Windows Startup with a Processor Tweak

This will really help the dual and quad core people.

    this is how it works:

Click start> Msconfig> Boot> advanced options> check the number of processors and select 'number of cores you have'

    That's it, apply/save and reboot.

Apparently Vista by default, only uses one core...

I tried this and it DOES make a difference.

Should work in XP too, i guess.

    Enjoy!!

This page was returned as the third result on a Google search, and I can't believe nobody commented.

    The above is nonsense.
Since Windows NT 4.0 (that is year 1995), all Windows versions detect and use all available CPU cores.

Just open Task Manager and see for your self.

Actually, the proper method is mentioned below:
    1. First click on Start>Run
    2. Then type msconfig and click OK.
    3. Once that box opens, click on the bootup tab.
    4. Under the Boot tab, click on Advanced
    5. Click the box next to the number of Cores, and choose the proper number from the dropdown box.
    6. Apply and save the changes. Your computer may require a reboot. If it does, go ahead and do so, and notice the difference!

I don't see boot tab on mine. It say boot.ini But nothing about number of cores. And I'm running XP. I'd be interested if someone could help so I don't screw this up.
