Re: How to Hide Files and Folder on Win XP

Your trick is very nice one and easier one but there is one more way 2 use the same batch programming method.

first select a folder for example i'll use a folder name movies in D drive D:\movies\

in the same drive u create a text file and type

    ren movies movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

    and save it as loc.bat

again u type in a notepad as

    ren movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} movies

    and save it as key.bat

now in D drive u can see two batch files loc and key.. when u double click loc the movie folder will change to control panel and whn u double click key the control panel will change to normal folder..

.Here u need not remember the long string everytime you want to change...instead it can be done just by clicking

Let the folder to protect be D:\My Files\Secret. The folder Secret is to be protected...

NB:- The symbol '<' indicates Enter
    Steps
    1. Go to Command Prompt (Go to Run->Type cmd)
    2. Now type the foll command:-

    Code:
    >d: <(the drive where ur folder is...)
    >cd D:\My Files <(just copy and paste it in Cmmand Prompt Window; that is easy when the path is long...)

    NOW THE IMPORTANT COMMAND
    >ren secret secret.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} <
NB:- U can also rename the folder directly from the Explorer also...

Done! Now go and open the folder thro Explorer and see what happened!!

To unprotect, just reverse the command:-

    Code:
    >ren secret.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} secret <
NB:-This cannot be done from Explorer!
    How is that??

well both the links u have mentioned are extremely good... no doubt about that .. but is there ne easier way of doing it.
i mean hiding in the system protected files will it work...... ?How to hide files on Windows « Brownian Motion

well that is good only for ntfs file system wat about fat32 ....? it seems unlikely that the method would work out...

I have an easiest way to hide and protect the files or folders.
By using ATTRIB command , you can protect your files or folders from other users.
Consider you have a folder named "personal" in D:\
To hide that folder, follow these steps:-
    1. Go to Run
    2. Type Cmd
    3. Type ATTRIB +r +a +s +h D:\personal
then your personal folder will be hided when u go check in D drive.
no one can view your folder.
