How to turn on your pc through your Android Smartphone or tablet

Android is an amazing platform that offers you pc like features where you can do various things instantly. Like you can simply control your pc shutdown through a android phone. And there is no major things needed. If you want you can configure the same through a automated task. Like at a specific time when you enter your office, your pc will turn on its own. And then you can simply use a third party software to turn it off also. I am going to show you the process through which you can turn on your Windows based pc easily through a simple android app called as WoL Wake on Lan. The app is free and needs minimum configuration. You just have to follow the steps properly. The feature comes integrated in the system. You just have to turn on the features and the app will do the rest job. Here you have to do a few things before moving ahead. I am listing them one by one.

• You will need a windows based pc to use the feature.
• You will need a Android device with ICS or higher OS.
• You will need a wifi setup in your home or office.
• Keeping your PC on static IP is recommended if you want to flawlessly use this feature.
• WOL Wake on Lan Wan is a free app and can be downloaded from Google Play.

Steps to switch on your pc through Android phone or table:

First shutdown your pc and go in Bios. You have to find Wake on LAN or PXE Boot and enable it. Turn on your pc back again and if you are using Windows 7 then click on Start and type Device Manager. Right click on your Network Adapter and click on Properties. Then click on Advance and below Property look for Wake on Magic Packet. From the right enabled it.

It is always good to put the pc on static IP so that each time you can switch on. On automatic settings most of the time the IP is changed and the app will not able to identify your system. For that go in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. In that right click on the Network Adapter and choose Properties. Click on TCP/IP 4 and apply a static IP to the pc.

Again click on Start. In the search box type cmd and hit enter. Type ipconfig /all. From the CMD window you have to find two things. first is the IP address of your PC and the second one is the Mac Address or Physical Address. Note them.

No go in your android phone an launch Wol Wake on Lan Wan app. In that tap on Add New. You have to fill the following details.

• Name - name of your pc like Johnpc or Officepc. If you are using Windows 7 then you can find that at the top side in Start Menu.
• MAC - Type the physical address that you got from CMD. It would in this format 00-00-00-00-00-00.
• IP or Domain - Now here type the IP address of your IP. Leave others things on default.

Tap on Save. Shutdown your pc and test the app by tapping on the PC name.
