But still there are reasonable options available through which you can fix the problem and make your system work again back. Boot drive issue, OS corruption are some of the most common cause. Being a different OS platform troubleshooting steps are different here. I had worked on Windows for really long time. And found it as one of the most easiest platform to troubleshoot and fix the problems. But later on I switched to Mac. It took me sometime to understand its internal usage.

    Fixing Startup Failure :

    • This is a common boot problem. Your Mac might not startup when you are trying to turn it on. This can be a hardware or software failure. There are a series of different things you can try here. You can try to boot your Mac in text only environment so that you can move ahead to troubleshoot the same. The system comes with a recovery procedure which you can use to restore your system issue. So the first thing you must do is run a full recovery if there is a problem.
    • Try to boot mac in safe mode. This is another good way to run a disk check and repair so that the startup issue can be resolved. Try to boot it safe mode first and once you are in that you can go ahead with running Disk Utility. This tool is going to give you more higher number of options through which you can fix the system.
    • You can also use the Mac OS X installation cd to fix the same issue. You have to insert the disc and boot system from that. Insert the disc and press c to enter recovery You can run various tools this. In Disk Utility you can find first tab. Click on that and Disk utility will automatically start repairing the system. There are maximum chances that your system will get fixed through this process.
    • Another option left is to use fsck. This is a command line tool for advance users. This is beneficial when your system does not boot in normal mode. You can get in text only mode and go ahead with fixing the issue. This mode allow you to fix various issue. This just launch disk utility in the system. Usually if the system fails to boot properly you can see a gray screen. This screen remains constant. Now this screen appear due to a hardware failure. Some attached hardware to your system might be causing the issue. Disconnect everything. Go in save mode and run disk utility. You can reset the NVRAM by turning off the Mac system by holding the power button for few second. If there is any third party ram or hardware installed in the system remove it.

Re: Troubleshooting Mac OS X Startup Errors

Whenever this kind of issue appear the most important thing you must do is disconnect all the hardware from the system. This quiet important. Because it is possible that some connected hardware like printer or usb is causing the issue. Then only move ahead with fixing the problem. Most of the time gets fixed on its own. But if nothing works then the last option left is to re-install mac back.
