OpenOffice for Mac is a cross-platform office suite with a feature similar to Microsoft Office. OpenOffice spreadsheets Transportation offers a word processor program for creating presentations, a database program and a formula editor. OpenOffice can also import Microsoft Office documents, or save documents as such. In addition, it supports the open ODF format (Open Document Format).
The users of OpenOffice.org are two basic ways of using this free program on the Mac is the first variant of NeoOffice, which installs as a normal application but tends to be rather heavy and is updated less than all 'OpenOffice. Org “normal. " On the other hand, uses all graphics, fonts and the standard Aqua interface of Mac OS X.
Install OpenOffice on Mac
It is not yet any simple install OpenOffice. There are two versions of OpenOffice for Mac OS X: version of OpenOffice using the X11 emulator (therefore longer to open and to be the subject of various manipulations to configure printers or add fonts) and NeoOffice written in Java that opens directly into Mac OS X (it is "heavier" but directly uses printers and fonts). By cons, OpenOffice is often more current than NeoOffice. Currently, OpenOffice is NeoOffice version 2.0 and version 1.1.
OpenOffice.org is no longer present. This version of Java for Mac OS X works quite well, although here and there are still some bugs corrected through "patches" that cannot redownload the whole thing at a time. The menu bar has been integrated into the Aqua interface of Mac OS X, copy / paste with other applications running, and the pdf enrollment, and all that. Moreover, the small problem in the previous version with the help files has been resolved. The development team seems little thick but very dynamic.
- Download the disk image of OpenOffice.
- Make a double click on the package. It opens and installs easily.
- It installs a folder in the Applications folder.
- Click OpenOffice.org.app to start OpenOffice.
- Click OOo_Admin.app to configure printers and fonts. By default, it opens on New Printer.
- Click on the Fonts button to add or remove fonts. I recommend installing Arial, Verdana and Times (base fonts) but Garamond and Optima (the beautiful fonts for editing, finally, if you have them!).
