Tips to play all media files on Xbox 360

Obviously, being Xbox 360 and Windows products within a company, would have been an absolute blunder not to have implemented a communication channel to transmit information, in this case audio, video and photos. So to make use of this communication and enjoy all our stuff from the Xbox 360 only must meet certain requirements.

The first and essential, both when we are connecting the console to a PC, a Mac or a PC running Linux, is that both devices are connected to the LAN network. This can be done via wifi, using the special adapter exists for the Xbox 360, or using PLC adapters

Since the console only supports streaming video in WMV format, there are programs to overcome this problem. One of those is Tversity, a program installed on your PC, the fly turns your movies (any format) into WMV format and then makes it available for streaming, so that your console can play.

Installation and configuration of TVersity to watch WMV movies on XBOX 360 (Windows XP SP2 or VISTA)

    Installing the server

If you have any codec packs installed, it would be better to remove it and install the following things. The codec FFDShow is very important for the correct operation of the program.

    Required Software
    • TVersity
    • FFDShow - for MPEG2 / 4, H.264, Divx, Xvid, AAC, FLAC, Vorbis, FLV, and more
    • Haali Media Splitter - for better MP4 and H.264 support and for OGG / OGM and Matroska
    • Real Alternative - for Real audio and video
    • Quicktime Alternative - for MOV
    • MP4 Source / Splitter - for better support of MOV
    • FLV Splitter - required for FLV playback.

    It begins
    • Install the TVersity service, quietly following the wizard.
    • Then install all the codecs you need (most current version)

    Server Configuration
On your desktop there should link to TVersity, double click on it and open the program interface. Now you need to start the service to configure everything. To start the service, click on Advanced in the menu bar and click "Start Sharing". The application freezes for a few seconds, then a dialog-box will inform you that the service was started.

First we must configure the server settings.

    • Click on the Settings tab, if you want to use the program only to stream with your XBOX 360, Select the XBOX 360 in the combo box as Media Playback Device.
    • Also uncheck "Automatically start sharing the media When the computer starts" in the Media Sharing Service.
    • If you want your Media Server also accepts inbound requests from extraterrestrial entities outside of your intranet (LAN), in the "Home Network" After the fight you can leave things checked.

    Firewall Configuration

In Windows Firewall, you must add in the list of exceptions: C: \ Program Files \ TVersity \ Media Server \ MediaServer.exe (generally the folder that contains MediaServer.exe). Go into the Control Panel, Windows Firewall (Windows XP SP2 or Vista), click on the tab of exceptions and add the string as an exception. If you have another firewall you should do the same thing, but obviously the paths to get to the exceptions will be different.

    Configuring Transcoder

    • Click on the icon of the transcoder, on the left side of the window. Here you need to tell what quality you want to stream to your device.
    • Usually if you have a high speed LAN (11Mbps, 56mbps, 100mbps, 1Gbit) you can stream high-quality on your network, in this case select the "Optimization" setting.
    • For "Connection speed and quality", in the combo box of "Connection Speed" choose your speed, if not you can check it easily by clicking on the icon of your network (Control Panel, select Network Connections, right click on the connection and then "Status", speed) where one of the state of the wireless connection (if any), all carefully selected in the program.
    • For the compression depends very much on the power of your PC
    • For the video resolution, it depends on which monitor you use, if it is a widescreen 16:9 as you could put a 480X272 (PSP screen) if it is a 4:3 (normal TV) you could put 320x240, 640x480, or 512x384. Normally 16:9 for HDTV / Widescreen and 4:3 for general TV.

    Building the library

Let's say now what server we want to stream. Click on "Sharing Tab" under the tab you will find a "Home | Media " button. This is to import all the files, click on "Browse" and select the file / directory you want. A dialog box that your files / directories have been added.

Server connection from the XBOX 360

    • As a precaution, restart the service, "Advanced" menu, "Restart Sharing".
    • Once restarted, turn on the XBOX 360.
    • On the XBOX 360, go to the tab "Media", click on "Video", the list of selected resources "Computer", will scan the network for other computers that can be streamed.
    • When will Finite, TVersity will show followed by some text.
    • Select the computer and the Xbox 360 will connect to the server.
    • Select a video to watch, there will be a little 'delay in the selection because the server has started operations transcoding.
    • If it tells that the format is not supported, it means that codec has been installed badly on the server.
    • REMEMBER, just finished watching the video, close the sharing service, otherwise your PC will continue to allocate resources unnecessarily
