1. Enabling Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) and OMA
ActiveSync is enabled by default when you install Exchange. To check whether the option is enabled, start Exchange System Manager, then expand Global Settings and go to the properties of" Mobile Services . For that you must check all three boxes under the heading Exchange ActiveSync
Note: The activation of AMO (OWA for pocket pc) can be done about this window.
2. Management Users
EAS is enabled by default on all users who have a mailbox in Exchange. To activate or deactivate EAS for a normal user, just start the Active Directory Users And Computers. Select a user and see its properties, then the tab Exchange Features. You can now choose to activate the synchronization option for the user pocket or not.
3. Exchange Server 1.3 System
By default EAS and OMA uses port 80 for the detection and synchronization on the Exchange servers.
4. Configuration on the server
Run IIS (iis.msc), go to the directory properties Exchange. Make sure Integrated Windows Authentication" is checked in the virtual directory: Exchange.
5. Configuring the Server Front
- Start the registry editor % systemroot% \ system32 \ Regedt32.exe, go on the road:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ MaSync \ Parameters
- Add the value REG_SZ (string) which will be called: SMTPProxy and who shall be the value of the domain name is: domain.com.
- If there are several front-end servers must necessarily apply this setting on all servers.
6. Configuring Security for OMA
- By default OMA uses HTTP (port 80) for transactions on the Web traffic.
- The passwords entered during login pass therefore clear. To remedy this problem, use SSL (HTTPS port 443) is required.
- The configuration of SSL for OMA is simply the configuration of IIS.
- If you have a certification authority, you should just check these main points. Otherwise you must install and configure a certification authority.
- Start the IIS management tool, or run the command "iis.msc" (Windows 2003).
- Expand the root of your site hosting OMA then go in its properties.
7. Choose the tab Directory Security:
Click on Edit below the title Secure Communications and check the boxes for Require secure channel (SSL) and Require 128bit encryption are ticked.
8. Configuring Pocket PC
- To enable the Pocket PC to access a mail server from outside, it is necessary to have a Pocket PC that supports GPRS minimum to allow a connection to the Internet.
- The configuration of the connection is made directly on the Pocket PC in Start \ Setting \ Connection \
- Click Login. Then click on Add a new modem connection
Then simply choose the type of connection here:
- Login Name: Add the login name
- Modem: Add the GPRS connection
- Access Point Name: Add the Access Point
- Connection parameter:
- Username: username
- Password: password
In the advanced set the setting just below:
TCP / IP tab
- Select: IP allocated per server
- Check: Compression Software Compression and IP header.
Servers tab:
- Select: Address allocated by server.
- Validate and then click Finish.

Launch Internet Explorer
- To test whether SSL has been introduced just type the address of your Exchange server:
- You should get a message then type the address with HTTPS: Yes:
- Enter your username here: the user pocket
- You arrive on a simple interface that corresponds to that of AMO.
- If it works well you should see your message in the inbox user pocket
- Then respond to the administrator click reply:
- Then click on Message [] and fill in the fields:
- Click OK. You should see your message:
- Check if the message has been sent from a client in OWA eg.
