HowTo: Install BT4 Final On a Mac

Macintosh (Mac Abstract), After having an Intel architecture, which makes installation to appear similar to other computers. The history of Apple (the company) is rich. This page explains how to install Backtrack on Intel Macs.

Installing Boot Camp

• Reboot OS X.
• With Boot Camp Assistant (/ Applications / Utilities /), remember to add a fat32 partition which should be more than 4 GB

Installing Refit

• Reboot OS X
• REFIT menu can be opened from the start menu.
• Select the second icon on the bottom line. Enter "y" and "Enter". This tool partitionemment refit.
• Once again restart OS X.

Disk Partitioning

First of all you will have to burns the iso file. It should be burned at low speed for producing good results.

Insert the bootable disc in the drive and then restart the machine.

Start the Backtrack cd (the penguin / penguin with cd ..).

At the login prompt enter:

User: root
Password: toor

To have a mac keyboard to enter:

xorgconfig

At the stage of selecting the type of keyboard to type "108" and "Enter".

Then type in fdisk:

fdisk / dev / sda

In fdisk

Delete the partition Fat32:

d
3

Create the / partition:

n
p
3
Enter the size as your wish /
t ( the partition is set 83 by default)
83

Create the swap partition:

n
p (4 is selected automatically)
Specify the size needed for the swap (Recall that the swap should be 1.5 times to 2 times than your RAM. )

Note: If you did not wish creating a partition for swapping, you an make a file in our / partition instead.

Write the information on the disk:

w

Create file systems.

mkfs.ext3 / dev/sda3
mkswap / dev/sda4

Remember :

After partitioning you will have to install Backtrack on your system without restarting you cannot install backtrack because of the fdisk and remade.

Restart.

You will need to refit the menu once again also remember synchronizing the tables again using refit partitioning tool. Open the second icon bottom line and once inside do "it" and "Enter".

Restart the Backtrack cd and mount using filesystems.

mkdir / mnt / bt
mount / dev/sda3 / mnt / bt
swapon / dev/sda4

Start the graphical server.

startx

After starting the graphical installer for Backtrack
Don't put anything in the source install the Backtrack to

": "/ mnt / bt"
Select to "Write to MBR": "/ dev / sda"
Select "Installation Method": "Real"

Press the install button.

NOTE: It will appears as it is stucked in between "/ usr" '. This file is in 400 MB, so be patient.

Post-Installation

After finishing the installation, restart the live CD. Once logged in, get in chroot and update the lilo.conf:

chroot /mnt/sda3 /bin/bash chroot / mnt/sda3 / bin / bash
lilo -v -P ignore lilo-v-P ignore

Reboot the system

exit (Exit the chroot)
reboot reboot

Your linux partition will now become the Refit menu. click it and the backtrack will be started.

Point to remember

If it appears to be hunged on tux or a black screen appears then hit the esc button continuously till you get the menu lilo
